"We were referred to Matt/MBA Deck and Fence by a local lumber yard and were also able to see him on Angie's List. He was prompt in coming over to our home over a month ago and seemed knowledgeable about the various brands and types of composite decking materials. Unfortunately even after a number of texts exchanged we have yet to receive the quote now over a month past his visit. We can understand being busy and not able to bid at the time so the professional response would have been to inform us of that fact instead of indicating that he would quote- perhaps even offer later availability. Very disappointing especially since he received a glowing recommendation from a local lumber yard."

"We decided on the standard Hardi Plank siding. The project went very smoothly. The employees were friendly and professional. Mr. Dennis King does not subcontract any of his work. The employees who did the work for us were obviously experienced and one I know has twenty years at this work. What really amazed me was the detail work they did.  They went above and beyond my expectations. They wrapped the house in the newest product.  They caulked in areas I would not have expected. They trimmed areas I would not have expected and even replaced a short piece of gutter that was not their responsibility to do.  They cleaned up after themselves each day and made sure that our gates and fences were secure for our dogs before leaving each night.

After the work was completed we had an issue with one of our outside lights that had been taken off in order to put the siding up.  Mr. King had the light fixed promptly.

We have now used King and King twice (roof and siding) in both cases we were not disappointed.  All work was done above my expectations.

"After spending over two hours giving my parents a detailed account of their roof and gutters, Nicole C. came over to my townhouse for a window estimate. She explained all of my window options, each one's differences and the cost involved. Nicole provided lots of information and was very professional. I learned a lot and I look forward to discussing our projects."

"The work was great! Our house used to be a single color and we changed the color scheme to 3 colors. Lots of decisions to be made, but Ben was very patient. He added trim around some windows and doors to give a consistent look. He and his workers did a neat and professional job, completing it without delays. The house looks great! Because it is an older home, we needed a painter who is certified to work with lead paint, which Ben is."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Pickets should sit at least 2 inches off the ground to encourage groundwater to flow underneath. Pickets can sit as much as 6 inches off the ground, but setting it any higher could let pets in or out of your yard unintentionally. These are not to be confused with the fence posts anchored underground with soil or concrete footing.

Because this composite fencing and deck material is made from both wood and plastic, it’s more durable than either alone. It’s so popular for outdoor purposes because it really does stand the test of time. Heavy rain and high heat won’t greatly change its structural integrity; it can last up to 25 years in total with proper care.

The cost to build a fence is about $3,100 on average, but you could pay anywhere from $400 to $13,700 or more. Your cost will depend on the length, height, and materials for the fence. If you hire a professional installer, labor costs typically represent about half of the total cost of the project. This means you potentially can save quite a bit of money doing the work yourself.

The depth of your post hole depends on your post length. If you decide on a two-rail fence, the posts are likely 6 feet long. You want your hole to be at least 1/3 of the post length. In this case, your post hole should be two feet deep.

If you opt for a three-rail fence, the posts will typically be 7 feet long, meaning your post hole should be 28 inches deep.

Most people prefer to keep the fence level by “stepping” the fence when running a horizontal fence over a slope. Stepping involves raising each panel between the posts as the fence moves over changes in slope, giving the fence line the appearance of stair steps. While this may be the preferred method of running a horizontal fence up a slope, there’s nothing wrong with installing your fence so it follows the undulations in the ground instead.
