"We had a great experience working with Pat. We had a large remodel of an early 1920s home where we wanted to update but maintain the traditional character. Pat worked within our budget and land requirements while also maximizing our wants and making the space functional. She listened to us, while also guiding us in our options. She also worked well with our contractor and engineer. Would highly recommend and will use again on future projects."

"During wind storm a tree fell on out buildings. A garage and 2 sheds. This company was fast in tarping garage roof to keep rain from getting in. Also, Anwar was quick to give estimates on repairing garage roof and sheds. His crews put new roof on garage and sheds as well as replacing broken rafters caused by the tree. They prepped and painted garage and sheds. They look brand new. Anwar interfaced with my insurance company to get additional considerations from the original insurance estimate. I was especially appreciative of his help. You can't go wrong by hiring Dluxe Construction!!!"

"Matthew Bruce exceeded our expectations. Our 92-year-old dad fell while using the bathroom and injured himself. We needed an immediate response to make the bathroom safe. Matthew responded to my request very quickly. He asked questions about the situation that showed he had the expertise we needed. He came to the house within a day of agreeing to perform the work and completed the most urgent task that day. He needed other tools to complete the installation of the grab bar drilled into the shower tiles, so he had to return at a later time. He communicated clearly when he could return and completed the task. Additionally, he cleaned up after his work and was pleasant to workMatthew Bruce exceeded our expectations. "I am having a full master bath and kitchen remodel done with new layouts in both rooms and knocking out a wall. Evolution worked with me to quickly get a drawing done of the new layouts so that the contractor could get started on the project. They made sure to include me in the process so that the design would be done exactly as my wife and I envisioned. They communicated effectively throughout the process and were always courteous and professional. I recommend them to anyone with drafting needs."

"Juan helped us design and plan a 4-plex on a small lot in a prime location. He met with the city and sorted out the codes we could use (duplex with 2 ADUs), and worked with us and the city the whole way through our work together. His plans made good sense, and he gave us space to think about it, talk about it and come back with thoughts that he would incorporate when we could. I feel like we had good control of the process, and he is a pleasure to work with. Thank you, Juan!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

The 10 10 rule describes the formula most contractors use to determine how much to charge for a job. Allowing for 10% overhead above the total projected cost to do the work and 10% profit sets a contractor up for success, even if there are delays or other problems on the project. This formula isn’t a hard-and-fast rule, but it is a ballpark figure to begin with when estimating your expenses on a job.

If you intend to do the majority of the work yourself, you can pay to hire an architect or a structural engineer to ensure your home remains structurally sound. They can help with the planning to make sure everything is up to code and safe for your family. On the other hand, if you’re not sure your home will be completely safe when you’ve completed the project, let a pro do the job.

Yes, all states require structural engineers to carry the proper license, with specifics determined by each state. You can use Angi’s state licensing tool to confirm that the structural engineer you’re considering holds the required licensing to tackle your job. Hiring an unlicensed structural engineer will not only cause issues with permits but it could also lead to an unsafe building. The cost of a professional, licensed, and experienced engineer is well worth the investment.

The process involves initial consultation, concept development, detailed planning, regulatory approvals, and integration of contractor work for project execution.

Yes, you can put a doorway in a structural wall; in fact, most exterior doors are set into structural walls. The project is a little more challenging than installing a door in a non-load-bearing wall because you need a structural engineer to assess the wall and make sure it’s safe to create a wall opening. Your engineer’s report will include instructions for your contractor on how and where to install additional supports, like steel headers above the door, to distribute the weight above to the wall on either side of the door.
