"We had a great experience working with Pat. We had a large remodel of an early 1920s home where we wanted to update but maintain the traditional character. Pat worked within our budget and land requirements while also maximizing our wants and making the space functional. She listened to us, while also guiding us in our options. She also worked well with our contractor and engineer. Would highly recommend and will use again on future projects."

"During wind storm a tree fell on out buildings. A garage and 2 sheds. This company was fast in tarping garage roof to keep rain from getting in. Also, Anwar was quick to give estimates on repairing garage roof and sheds. His crews put new roof on garage and sheds as well as replacing broken rafters caused by the tree. They prepped and painted garage and sheds. They look brand new. Anwar interfaced with my insurance company to get additional considerations from the original insurance estimate. I was especially appreciative of his help. You can't go wrong by hiring Dluxe Construction!!!"

"Matthew Bruce exceeded our expectations. Our 92-year-old dad fell while using the bathroom and injured himself. We needed an immediate response to make the bathroom safe. Matthew responded to my request very quickly. He asked questions about the situation that showed he had the expertise we needed. He came to the house within a day of agreeing to perform the work and completed the most urgent task that day. He needed other tools to complete the installation of the grab bar drilled into the shower tiles, so he had to return at a later time. He communicated clearly when he could return and completed the task. Additionally, he cleaned up after his work and was pleasant to workMatthew Bruce exceeded our expectations. "Juan helped us design and plan a 4-plex on a small lot in a prime location. He met with the city and sorted out the codes we could use (duplex with 2 ADUs), and worked with us and the city the whole way through our work together. His plans made good sense, and he gave us space to think about it, talk about it and come back with thoughts that he would incorporate when we could. I feel like we had good control of the process, and he is a pleasure to work with. Thank you, Juan!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Portland, structural engineering maintenance often includes checking for moisture intrusion during the rainy season, inspecting crawl spaces for mold, and ensuring downspouts direct water away from the foundation. Homes in older neighborhoods or on hillsides should have regular structural inspections for shifting or settling. After windstorms or earthquakes, promptly check for new cracks or foundation movement to address issues early.

Helpful?

Before starting a structural engineering project in Portland, document any existing cracks or settling, and gather previous inspection reports. Schedule a soil analysis if foundation work is planned, as Portland’s variable soil can impact stability. Review neighborhood-specific requirements and plan for potential weather delays, especially during the rainy season. Communicate with neighbors about upcoming work, and set aside extra time for permit approvals.

Helpful?

In Portland, structural engineering projects like seismic retrofitting or foundation repairs typically take several days to a few weeks, depending on project scope and soil conditions. Permit processing can add two to four weeks, especially during peak construction season. Wet weather may cause delays, particularly for excavation or exterior work, so scheduling during drier months can help keep your project on track.

Helpful?

Be wary of quotes that overlook Portland’s frequent rain or the need for seismic upgrades. Avoid professionals who skip soil testing, don’t specify permit timelines, or fail to address drainage solutions. Lack of local references, pressure for immediate decisions, or requests for full payment upfront are warning signs. Quotes that are unusually low or vague about project phases and inspection schedules should also raise concern.

Helpful?

In Portland, homes with sloped lots, clay-heavy soil, or those built before seismic codes were updated in the 1990s often benefit from a structural inspection. Look for diagonal cracks near windows, uneven floors after heavy rain, or doors sticking during wet months. If your home has had past unpermitted work or you’re planning a major remodel, a structural assessment is highly recommended.
