Customers say: True professional

"We hired Green Town Garden to clean up our front yard. It was over grown and filled with weeds, grasses, and other unwanted plants. Mr. Perez from Green Town Garden was quick to come out to our home to estimate how much it would be to whip our garden into shape. After providing us with a prompt quote, he was also able to tell us when he was able to start the project. Imagine our surprise when he was able to come out within days. We hired Green Town Garden for the job and we've never been more pleased with work we received. The job was done quickly, but with care. They cleaned up our flower beds, laid down landscaper's fabric, and also laid down bark dust. Our yard has never looked better and we will be hiring Green Town Garden for any future landscaping needs."

"Grass Doctor has been servicing my yard on a monthly basis for a few years. They do an excellent job with upkeep and have never missed a service date. I have also had them quote and used their services for additional yard related projects. The response time on these requests, both the quote and the service, have been prompt and well executed. I have had other services manage my lawn care and rate Grass Doctor amongst the best for value, professionalism and quality."

"I have use Proscape NW for about twenty years at multiple locations. They operate a well- organized, safe, and efficient work crew. Proscape is a legitimate landscaping company.... meaning they are licensed, well-insured, and pay taxes at every level. Among legitimate landscapers, their pricing is very difficult to beat. And..... I might add.... my yards always looks fantastic!"

"We had All In One Excavation & Landscaping LLC put in a new lawn, sprinkler system, brick pavers, plants/shrubs and landscape lighting. They also installed a fence with a retaining wall along the backside of our property and a new fence on the side of our house. There is no way we could have gotten this work done any better. We have pictures to prove their quality of work. We loved their work! Amazing job!"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

There are two main times of year to apply mulch: mid to late spring and late fall. Spreading mulch in mid to late spring helps protect new seedlings as the soil warms up. It's best to wait until temperatures are steady, as mulching too early in the spring can slow down the soil's warming process and hinder plant growth. Fall mulching is also beneficial, as it insulates the soil and helps regulate its temperature when the first frosts arrive.

If you don’t like the way your empty drainage ditch looks, reach out to a local landscaping professional to discuss your options. They may be able to liven it up with plants, stones, bushes, or other decorative elements. You can also add your own landscaping, but you should first make sure that it won’t block your ditch or prevent it from operating effectively.

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.

Monkey grass isn’t too picky when it comes to light conditions: It needs sun but prefers partial shade. While it can tolerate full sun, it thrives in environments with partial shade (around four to six hours of sunlight per day). The black mondo grass variety is the most tolerant of heat from direct sunlight.

A scattering of leaves won’t pose a problem through the winter, but a thicker layer of leaves may not decompose before the first frost and can instead weigh down your grass and harbor mold or fungi. A thick layer of leaves also cuts off light and air that grass needs to grow. That’s why we suggest removing thick leaf layers within several days if possible. If your lawn goes dormant over the winter and snow has already caught up with you, then remove the leaves in early spring before your grass-growing season starts so your lawn can thrive.
