"Ben came to do an Energy Audit. He was highly professional, informative and efficient. His friendly manner was greatly appreciated. We were greatly impressed with him and the knowledge he brought to the areas of our concerns. Because of all the stated above we have decided to go with his company for the work we need done. Highly rated!"

"HomeRx’s sales rep, Bryant, came to assess the attic and crawl space in an older home I purchased. His kind, calm manner of explaining what I needed and how HomeRx would remediate it was reassuring. He told me HomeRx and Energy Trust of Oregon are in a partnership. When I learned I qualified for an ETO rebate, it was so much more generous than I’d expected! HomeRx’s expertise, along with their care, flowed from beginning to end. When I called/visited the office, I felt truly valued as a customer. Alma, Taylor, Samual, Jennifer, Kimberly, and Adan each explained what I needed to know from their unique area of expertise! If there was a glitch, it was fixed to their standards. When I met Jose, HomeRx president, I felt his leadership had a genuinely heartfelt foundation, whether it was in his care for me, his customer, or in his manner of relating with his HomeRx’s teams. I highly recommend HomeRx for any service they offer that meets your needs. You can’t go wrong."

"Thorough audit. However, their focus is to sell a $50,000 home sealing project. That?s crawl space to attic. Payback on energy savings? A zillion years."

"The specific project completed on our home was to provide drainage, including a sump pump, in our crawl space and to replace the vapor barrier. Although our particular project was very difficult, including a clay surface below the old vapor barrier, the crew managed to prepare the drainage pipe ditch and lay perimeter drainage pipe. They labored with soil that was either too wet and therefore too sticky to work with a shovel, or soil that was too dry and almost rock hard. After many days of effort they managed to successfully install pipe, sump pump and vapor barrier. In spite of the very difficult conditions with which they struggled to complete the project, the crews who worked on our project were very courteous and professional in the way they did their job. I would highly recommend Josh Lowe's Dr. Energy Saver Home Services."

"Overall it went very smoothly. John always is punctual about showing up or calling when he says he will. We waited until late in the year, when we were faced with missing our chance to get in on the energy-saving tax credit, and John made numerous phone calls to find us a door which we like and that he could install before the December 31st deadline. We are very satisfied with the end result, and the draftiness associated with the old door is totally gone, even in the face of the east wind we live with. John pays attention to detail, and he and his helper spent about 6 hours on the job. They went above-and-beyond, in sweeping the entire garage and removing all smudges from the door and its windows before hauling off the old door and track. John also made sure we had all the necessary paperwork to qualify for our tax credit. I would not hesitate to recommend this firm to anyone needing garage door servicing or replacement."

"We got the name of this company basically from random from a list of companies from the Oregon Energy Trust. The work they did with the blower test and energy audit was helpful and done well. It allowed us to understand the energy loss issues in our old home. The issues with this company were with the estimates provided for further work (ex. insulation installation, air sealing, asbestos removal). The quote was difficult to understand as to what work would be included and the prices seemed a bit high. For instance, the quote listed installing attic insulation for about $2200, but then later on listed slashing a vapor barrier on the existing insulation for only $600. The costs of both of these line items were totaled together in the overall bid price; however only upon talking to the company did I find out that these were "one thing or another" options and that they would not be done conjointly. Also, the final cost of the entire work was miscalculated which showed the work to be $3,000 cheaper than it actually would be. Some of the high prices included $175 per gable vent in the attic; I assumed this price included a fan, but in fact was basically just a whole in the siding with a screen installed- keep in mind these would be installed in an area of the attic that has easy access. The insulation quote to blow it in was $400 more expensive than a subsequent quote I received. For blower tests this company was fine, but I took my other work elsewhere."

Energy Efficiency Auditing questions, answered by experts

Homeowners may qualify for an HVAC tax credit if they install an ENERGY STAR®-certified HVAC system that exceeds the energy efficiency minimum standards:

  • Split-System AC: 16 SEER2

  • Packaged AC: 15.2 SEER2 and 11.5 EER2

  • Ducted Split Heat Pump: 15.2 SEER2, 7.8 HSPF2, and 11.7 EER2

  • Packaged Heat Pump: 15.2 SEER2, 7.2 HSPF2, and 10.6 EER2

  • Mini-Split System: 16 SEER2, 9 HSPF2, and 12 EER2

You can claim up to 30% of the cost of the job, subject to maximums.

If you have central air conditioning, it’s fine to run your AC all day if that’s what you want—as long as the AC unit is in good condition. But if your AC runs constantly when you don’t want it to, there may be a problem with your system (like the ones we’ve mentioned above). Window AC units and wall air conditioners aren’t as powerful as central AC, so you should only run those kinds of air conditioners for eight to 12 hours at a time.

Electric bills tend to be lower in spring and fall because people use less electricity during these seasons. Milder temperatures allow for less use of heating and cooling, unlike during winter and summer, which usually bring more extreme temperatures.

Energy output depends on turbine size, average wind speed at your site, and system efficiency. A 5 kW turbine in a good wind location can generate 8,000 to 12,000 kilowatt-hours per year, which may cover a large portion of an average home’s needs. Accurate output estimates require a professional wind assessment and a review of your household’s energy usage patterns.

Hawaii is currently rated as the most expensive state for utilities. How much are utilities for a house in Hawaii? With electricity costs in Hawaii totaling nearly 42 cents per kilowatt-hour, residents are paying more to run their households than any other residents. Electricity costs in Hawaii are so high, mostly due to the fact that most of the electricity available to residents is produced using oil that must be shipped in from other places.
