"Everything went great. The last contractor we hired to do the work not only put in poor quality cabinets that destroyed the existing woodwork while doing it. Mose installed new high quality custom cabinets and shelves. In doing so he took into account the previous contractors errors and fixed the issues created by the last guy. He made everything look seamless and like it was all part of the original design. He saved the projected that had went bad. We are going to hire him back to do more work in out house."

"Tim did a fantastic job with our kitchen. He worked with us through the process, coming up with solutions when we encountered unexpected challenges. His craftmanship is remarkable. Tim tore out our kitchen and drywall, installed new drywall and overhead lights, a new ceiling, installed new cabinets, and installed the tile backsplash. Everything looks better than we could have imagined! We will certainly hire him for any future projects. His estimated timeline was perfect and he started right when expected. Fantastic contractor!"

"I contacted Dave about a project I needed. After discovering what I wanted was outside his scope, he was straightforward about what he could do. He also volunteered information on a company in the type of industry that could help me.
Grateful for his time, patience, professionalism, and expertise.

"Great!! AIS did exactly what they said they would do. Their contractors were knowledgeable and professional. The design is perfect for my home. It doesn’t look like an add on. It looks like it was part of the house when built. We are getting lots of use out of it. Our friends and family love it!! Great customer!! Would highly recommend!!"

"On November 12, Anthony came to my house to look at the work and give an estimate. He told me what he needed to do and emailed it to me the estimate that we agreed upon. The following Monday, the 17th he was back to do the job. He did a great job, and because there was less to do than he originally anticipated, he reduced the bill. He was very honest and respectful and I will be hiring him again."

"Very smooth install. Ed was nice, personable, and timely. He installed the solar lights efficiently and correctly. And they function perfectly. Fee was very reasonable as well. He’s agreed to install similar lights next weekend at our daughter’s home located about 10 minutes away. We’re in the market for a new handyman, so would not hesitate to contact Ed again. Thank you."

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Stick frames, metal frames, or prefabricated concrete frames are included in framing a house, along with creating the framework and space for windows, doors, and entryways. Other aspects of developing a home—like drywall, insulation, windows, doors, and more—are not included in the cost to frame a house.

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.

Balcony construction or replacement typically requires a building permit from your local permitting authority. Safety and building integrity are the main reasons for the need to obtain a permit and the subsequent inspections. In some cases, especially cantilevered balconies, your municipality may also require the oversight and signature of a structural engineer.

It's possible to turn your carport into a living space, but there are additional factors to address over turning it into a garage. HVAC, plumbing, and electricity won't be optional, and you'll need finished flooring, drywall, trim work, and legal ceiling height, for starters. Also, keep in mind that living space conversions may require upgrading the foundation underneath, and the permits might be more expensive as well.

The primary parts of a house that need framing during construction are floors, exterior walls, interior walls, and the roof. The framing in these areas provides the skeleton for adding other materials over the top. With walls, for example, contractors can hang drywall over the interior walls and siding over the outside of the exterior walls. Proper framing ensures a sturdy house that is built to last.
