"REVIEW FOR CARIFA TILE 2/26/2025 CARIFA TILE JUST FINISHED installing beautiful 2-foot by 4-foot tiles in my tub surrounding and it is stunning. From my first call to the final finish, I was well cared for by the staff at CARIFA TILE. Joe Dismuke personally reviewed and refined my wants and needs for the project with me. Though this was a small project I felt CARIFA TILE considered me an important customer. Ciera, the project manager for my job, was hands-on from day one informing me of each step of my installation. Gustavos is a master craftsman who expertly installed my tiles, and I appreciated that his work area was contained and kept clean. I am extremely pleased with the entire job and all of the personnel who helped make it an easy process for me. I gladly recommend CARIFA TILE. Thank you everyone. Linda"

"I am posting this review again because I don’t know if it got posted and I wanted to say that our family is absolutely thrilled with the work that Todd and his team did on our basement!!!! We recently moved into a new house and needed a large, 1500 square foot basement finished. Todd helped design the perfect space which includes a separate room with a walk in closet, a full bath with tiled walls and floors and even a hide away play area for our kids!! The lighting and fixtures were great too!! We trusted Todd the whole way through and he did not disappoint one bit!! We didn’t have any problems or disagreements during the entire project!! We love it so much and our kids are already playing in the big open room!! Thanks again Todd and team for making our home even more beautiful and for completing the project on time!! We will definitely recommend Todd to friends and family if they are looking to have their basement finished!!!!!!! -Mary G"

"Greg did a fantastic job installing a sliding screen door, and repairing/painting a large stone wall and wood stairs.  This was the third time we have hired Greg and his work is wonderful.  He does quality work, is efficient with time, and is reasonably priced.  Also works very clean and courteous to the homeowner.  Previously Greg has finished our basement with full kitchen (demo and rebuild), installed a bedroom closet, and renovated a bathroom shower.  Would recommend him for most any home renovation project.

Customers say: True professional

"We could not be happier with the work Ed Comptom Construction did for us. They performed a complete remodel of our 40 year-old kitchen, front hall, back hall, and half bath. The work involved removing the old kitchen, including the drywall, tile floor, and 1970s era (plumbing containing) soffits that were everywhere. They re-routing plumbing and drains, upgraded electric, replaced a garden window, patio door, front door, storm door, and garage entry door. They installed new drywall on the ceilings, and walls, painted, installed six new interior doors, trim and base boards and new flooring throughout. Ed and his apprentice grandson, Blain, are master craftsmen who pay attention to detail and provide a quality of work that his hard to find today. Ed told us he would treat our home as his own and we found this to be true. They always showed up when they said they would, gave our project their full attention, and did a great job cleaning up after themselves on a daily basis. Our home was always left in as much a functional conition as possible at the end of each day. Given the size of our project, we had few unforseen problems, and for the few that we did Ed always had an efficient solution to solve them. Most, if not all, were encounted and solved before we even got home from work. Their fit and finsh work is excellent. We absolutely would recommend Ed Compton constuction and we will use them again for future projects."

"The end quality and workmanship was great! The only draw back was the height of the splash guards a bit too high. The counter got installed by the splash guards had to be trimmed and installed a few days later. Carlton does great work and delivered in the end a good installation."

"I wanted straighter/level deck & edges of a 97 year old slate roof before removing the slate, replacing the deck, and replacing the slate with asphalt shingle. My thought was to prop low spots in the wavy front edge in front, and prop the sagging corners in back; then, to build triangular braces similar to one extant on the house, like many on houses of similar age and design in the neighborhood. The idea of propping the low spots was dismissed, discussed again, and eventually dismissed as unnecessary; the low spots were forced up by hand, and fascia boards attached. While I was told the weight of the new roof might drop the level of the low spots again, this may have been more than anticipated; in retrospect it may have been preferable to force the low spots higher than could be done by hand, as the discrepancies from linear in the edges of the roof have, I think, caused inability to properly interface the drip edges and guttering at many places. I would though hire Dave's again."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

The rule tells you how to cut tile to install it in a corner. The 3/4/5 rule recommends that you should have 3 feet across on one straight line, four feet on the other perpendicular line, and 5 feet of length from the end of one of the lines to the other. You’re making a right triangle with the tile, and the hypotenuse (the line across from where the 3-foot lie and 4-foot line meet) should be 5 feet long.

Yes, it would be best if you waterproofed your shower walls before tiling. The cement backing board behind the tile is not waterproof; it’s only water-resistant. On top of your tile backing board, be sure to use a waterproof shower membrane before you start installing your shower tiles.

Glass tile can cost as much as or more than other durable tile types. When choosing the right tile for you, knowing the advantages and disadvantages of each can help you make an informed decision. The pros and cons of glass tile include:

Pros

  • Light-reflecting to add brightness

  • Waterproof and mold-resistant

  • Made from recyclable materials

Cons

  • High cost compared to similar and more durable materials

  • Usually requires professional installation

  • More easily scratched compared to materials like ceramic and porcelain

Glazed ceramic tiles don’t need to be sealed because the glazing already offers some protection against moisture. Unglazed ceramic tiles need to be sealed to keep the porous tile safe from moisture and staining. However, both types of tile can benefit from sealing. Sealant can make the tiles easier to keep clean and offer more resistance to water, spills, and stains.

Travertine is a natural stone, while porcelain is ceramic. You can enjoy the best of both worlds with porcelain travertine tiles. Some people prefer porcelain to travertine because it doesn’t require regular maintenance and it’s easier to clean. Porcelain travertine looks like the real thing but only costs $3 to $6 per square foot.
