"Dayton Door is a definite YES, for repair work or new doors! I called Dayton Door sales for work on my garage door opener and other door problems the door was having. Nick was the services representative that they sent out. He was polite, very professional, and established a sense of trust right away. And most of all he recognize the problems with my garage door and the best way to resolve them. I will not hesitate to call Dayton Door for any of my future needs and will recommend them to my neighbors."

"Mike did an amazing job from start to finish. He helped us pick out three beautiful doors - front and storm door, sliding patio door and door to the garage). He kept us updated on our order and expertly installed them with a great deal of care and attention to every detail. And all of this was at a competitive, fair price. I highly recommend Mike and Precision Building Service."

Small jobs welcome

"Vadym was so helpful! We have a veryyyy old house and none of our interior doors closed properly - he diagnosed the issue for every single one and was able to fix them all without us having to replace the original wood doors which are very special to us! He even fixed our front screen door just because he saw an issue with it as well. Would definitely use him in the future and highly recommend!"

"Great experience with Scottsman, they installed some appliances for me in a brand new home. They called me from a Home Advisor lead and booked the install appointment for the same day. They were efficient, professional and knowledgeable. I'll hire them again for additional projects in the future."

"The job went great. Dave was super responsive and came out to check out the job. We talked through some options on how to frame and trim the French doors that I had manufactured. Dave assigned Andy who came out on time and did a fantastic job. He took his time another doors, framing and created some custom trim work. The job went very well and would definitely hire Dave again."

"Anthony repaired a leaking shower faucet and replaced a facade that had fallen from over my front door. He accomplished this in about two hours, time which included going to Home Depot to purchase the part for the shower."

"Mr. Craig was excellent to work with. Our project was to make our condominium home's handicap and wheelchair accessible. Space was not available to go full ADA specifications, and plans construction plans were not available. Mr. Craig worked and us in thinking 'outside the box' of the typical/usual. One of our family members has a progressive weakness disability, and the solution will provide the capability of everything from walk-in to wheelchair with 'class'. Floors are slate tile, shower of cultured marble, fold-down teak seat, standard and hand-held shower heads with ability to alter between the 2, glass doors, coordinated grab bars and more, built-in closet shelves, etc. THANK YOU for making it so that we can remain in our home long term!"

Doors questions, answered by experts

A slab door is a standalone door without a frame or hardware. A prehung door is a complete set that includes the door, frame, hinges, and sometimes the doorknob and lockset.

In most cases, a prehung door is the better and easier option to install, especially for DIY projects or exterior applications, as they often come pre-weatherproofed. They require fewer tools and less experience to install properly. Although prehung doors are heavier and have a higher upfront cost, the investment is often worthwhile for a complete upgrade that includes a new frame.

A slab door may be a better choice if you are on a tight budget, have a custom-sized wall opening, or only need to replace the door while keeping the existing frame. While the initial cost is lower, you will need to purchase all the hardware separately and do more DIY work to hang it, which may not result in significant time or money savings.

It can affect security, especially if you don’t finish it properly. A Dutch door has more moving parts that can be compromised, so you’ll want to use solid hardware and make sure everything lines up and locks cleanly. If the latch is flimsy or the two halves don’t sit tight, it’s going to be easier to force open.

Start by checking the top or side edge of the door. Look for a certification label or metal tag stamped with details like the fire rating and information on the manufacturer. Even if it’s painted over, the tag should still be visible. Next, look along the edges for slim intumescent strips. They’re designed to swell up and seal gaps when exposed to heat. Finally, check if the door closes itself. Most fire doors have a self-closing mechanism, like an overhead closer or spring hinges. If none of these are obvious, contact a fire safety professional to help verify your door.

When it comes to painting hollow core doors, the top recommended paints to use are semi gloss or satin finish. If you do paint hollow core doors, be sure to gently sand the doors and use a paint primer to ensure the paint sticks.

The L marking on a door closer stands for latch speed and the S marking stands for swing speed. These two letters inform what part of the door closer you may be adjusting. The latch speed being the short final swing the door makes before closing and the swing speed being the long swing of the door when closing.
