"These folks are top-notch! We are building a house, on our own, so we have dealt with a lot of different companies and contractors, and West Jefferson Plumbing and Heating sets the standard.... really.... Do what you say, when you say it, at the agreed price, and do it correctly.... Sooooo many companies do not (way too many); WSJ is the company you want doing all of your plumbing and AC and/or Furnace work. They did an excellent job with our Lennox Furnaces and AC (we needed 2 complete systems)..... Pricing was good, work was excellent, response was awesome, communication was great! Can't say enough about how happy we are with this work, and having found West Jefferson Plumbing and Heating."

6 Employees. No Subs. Cost Is Determined By The Job. When we started our company back in 1959, a home visit by an Aqua Systems sales representative was the most convenient way to discover the attributes of our products. But families today are a lot more time-starved. You may want the best quality water, but a 90-minute presentation in your living room is not necessarily the best use of your time.

"I purchased a very rural home in 2017 and found it had very hard water with lots of iron. Aqua Systems fixed everything. The home's water system was leased from a company that begins with "H". Their system constantly allowed iron to leak through ruining clothes. Bath and dish water would turn dark in just a few minutes. I bought Iron Out in bulk. They were out twice a month for 8 months trying to fix and tweek the system. "H" even replaced the both the softener and iron filter with no success. As a result, I contacted six different water treatment providers, brought them each into my home for water testing and sales pitches. I researched water treatment and read up from different extension offices. (University of Georgia and Penn State both have a lot of info online). I can tell you half the salesmen didn't know what they were talking about. Mike Jackson with Aqua Systems was the exception. He knew exactly what was going on and how to treat it. They also offered the latest technology in dealing with the iron. "H" had old school tech (potassium permanganate) which Lowes or Home Depot doesn't even sell anymore to maintain the system. Plus it is a harmful chemical. I was hesitant to purchase a system since I was burned by the lease from "H". I thought they had the answer when I signed a lease. I was able to get out of their lease since they didn't keep their end of the lease - they didn't provide good water. Aqua Systems gave me a lease with the option to buy. Try out their product and 100% satisfaction guarantee. It has been more than six months now and I could not be happier with our water. Not one problem with iron and a R/O system with incredible pressure. Trust me. I did all the research... I interviewed all the companies. You will be happy with Aqua Systems."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

It’s sometimes possible to install a water softener yourself, but it’s usually better to hire a water softener professional to get the job done. Water softeners involve plumbing and electrical work, which usually require permits and a certified expert to sign off on the work. Not only is it dangerous to work with these utility lines, but it’s also not legal in many areas. Plus, improper installation or system sizing might not fix your hard water issue and could lead to an increased risk of leaks, fires, and other property damage.

A lower-end water softener would cost around $900, not including installation. Each home has different requirements, water hardness, and number of inhabitants, so there’s a huge range in pricing—$600 to over $6,000. The average water softener repair bill is around $500, meaning it’s a much better option to repair any issues and only replace your softener if absolutely necessary.

If your ‘do isn’t doing what you want it to do despite using good hair care products, hard water might be to blame. Since hard water can’t rinse soap off as well as soft water can, your hair might grow limp because of the shampoo and conditioner residue that’s left behind. If you color your hair, you might see it fade more quickly or even turn a different shade as the dye reacts with the minerals in the water. You might also experience an itchy scalp, thanks to the dryness that comes from bathing in the hard water.

There are several things that can shorten the life of a water softener. Homes with very hard water may have to replace the unit sooner because the water softener works harder to filter out the hard minerals. High water usage and infrequent maintenance can also put more strain on a water softener.

Yes, it is safe to bathe in yellow water. The iron or tannin content won’t harm your skin, and soap will clean you whether your water is clear or yellow. If you find bathing in yellow water problematic, you can ask a pro to inspect your plumbing and determine how to get your water clear again.
