"My countertop was put in properly. My issue is they were not helpful at all Helping me to complete the project .They left the countertop with big gaps between where it ended and where my tile started. I asked can you please refer me to someone to put ceramic trim here? They they had no referrals for me.they Said good luck and goodbye. I also had to hire my own person to level my cabinet. I used their plumber. He put the sink in as quickly as he could and charged $350. He put in a very thin line of caulk I hope is enough. I had a slow draining bathroom sink he looked at and told me it would be fine. Here I am a few months later it doesn’t drain at all. Take away here is if you only need the countertop that is fine to use them. But if you need any other little thing at all find a general contractor to do the entire job including the countertop. Also, the sales woman at the store was very polite and friendly but needs a course on what types of sinks go with what kind of cabinets. For example, formica countertops are not a good choice for an undermount sink. If you purchase a sink from them, it’s twice as expensive as going online and purchasing it yourself. OK when was the date again I just saw it I just had it July 20"

"I had a very small project to replace a bar top with a cutout for a bar sink. Less than 5 square feet. This was a remnant piece job. Design Surfaces did not make me feel that my job was small. They were great and professional to work with. Measurements and installation were done within two weeks. Very happy with the finished project. Would not hesitate to hire again."

"I initially agreed to purchase the product and placed deposit in October 2018. The final installation was competed on March 16, 2019. I was forced to take two days off from work for the install when the initial date was postponed due to breakage of material. I was sold on the product based on the pitch that it was a quality product that could be installed over my existing counters without much downtime or mess. One day, in and out is what I was told. It ended up being a two day install and a very disruptive and messy one at that. During the install the installers broke the counter material for a second time. When they came back, the granite top did not fit the counter and they were forced to begin hacking up my existing counters to make it fit. As you might imagine, this created a dust storm in the house that took my wife and I an entire day to clean We had to take everything off cabinets and shelves to clean. Every curtain on the lower floor had to be removed, washed and put back up. We found glue adhered to the curtains in the dining area and paint torn off the kitchen walls around the entire back splash. Furthermore, they killed the power to two of my electrical outlets. The owner to the company refused to correct the problem with the outlets even though his own installers admitted to using them during the install. After all said and done, the counters look reasonably nice; however, I ended up with two versus the one seam I had expected. Based on my experience, the inconvenience and additional labor and expense to me and my spouse, I would never recommend this company to anyone. The owner knows nothing of the term, "service recovery." Very disappointing!!!"

Smith Marble Restoration is a family owned and operated buisness for over 30 years. We specialize in the restoration and maintenance of marble, granite, limestone, travertine, terrazzo and more.

"I would not recommend retaining this company for any service. They perform a very poor quality of work. Damaged the marble floors, broke tile, failed to complete the items I was charged for, and left everything a total mess. I am having another company come in to start over AND repair the damage that was done by Smith Metal & Marble. Also, he is very unprofessional and rude."

"I have a 2014 Sea Ray and my boat's gel coat was fading bad, even after weekly washing in-season and completely detailing prior to and after seasons. Still, a hard part formed between the hardtop and the cabin, something I figured was not going to be able to be fixed. Grant's team not only made the area where the hard part was look brand new, so did the rest of the boat. The gel coat looks amazing! They did a tremendous job and went beyond my expectations. I wasn’t just pleased with the finished product, their customer service was on point as well. Enett in the office kept constant communication with me, making things go very smooth. She was able to answer all of my questions. No other detailer will touch my boat now that I found these guys!"

Marble and Granite questions, answered by experts

Travertine is a natural stone, while porcelain is ceramic. You can enjoy the best of both worlds with porcelain travertine tiles. Some people prefer porcelain to travertine because it doesn’t require regular maintenance and it’s easier to clean. Porcelain travertine looks like the real thing but only costs $3 to $6 per square foot.

Installation costs range from $10 to $50 per square foot, depending on stone type, project complexity, and labor.

Tile installation can be expensive because it requires more time and labor to install than many other materials. For example, laminate flooring can click and lock into place, and carpet comes in large rolls that you can secure to the floor. On the other hand, tiles need to be cut, laid individually, grouted, and left to cure.

Granite and marble compare well against each other in terms of price, durability, and aesthetic appeal. Deciding which one is better depends on your personal style and preference. Both materials resist damage like chips and cracks well. You should seal both material types against staining and etching, but they’re still susceptible if oil, wine, coffee, tomato sauce, or juice are left on the countertop long enough. As material and installation costs range similarly, the deciding factor is your budget, design, and preferences.

Glass, ceramic, porcelain, and natural stone are all excellent choices for tiling a shower floor. Some glazed finishes can be slippery when wet. Your tiling contractor can provide more information on which tiles will work best for your shower floor.
