"Per our signed contract with Mrs. [Member Name Removed], it very specifically states that we do not caulk between the wall and backsplash. This is to be done by others - typically a painting contractor. Mrs. [Member Name Removed] claims that the painter will not caulk the gaps as it is not his responsibility. I sent my technician out for a third time (all 3 times free of charge) to try and please Mrs. [Member Name Removed], and at that time he showed her that her walls are bowed. These gaps are only there because of poor construction. We cannot bend our material to fix these gaps as it they material will break. Other areas in question are gaps caused by our adhesive which is done to industry standards. There is no way around having gaps from the adhesive pushing the back splash out form the wall. The back splash has a slight bevel on the back upper edge which is necessary to clean the piece and avoid a sharp edge. This piece can easily be caulked. Mrs. [Member Name Removed] called me and began to threaten my employees and myself. She screamed at me and told me she was going to come to the business, stand outside the front doors and tell all of our potential customers not to purchase from us. I hung up the phone because I would not allow Mrs. [Member Name Removed] to disrespect me, my employees, and my business. We are not responsible for other trades poor construction. Before my technician left, he asked if there was anything else he could help them with. They agreed to have him reset the pantry backsplash. While he was working, Mrs. [Member Name Removed] went on a rampage and began berating my technician, my company, and myself. At one point during Mrs. [Member Name Removed]’s rampage, her husband yelled at her to shut the f*** up. My technician felt extremely uncomfortable and threatened. The problems the [Member Name Removed]’s are having are not Firenza [Member Information Removed]’s responsibility. There have been settling issues with the house which have been confirmed by my technician and Mrs. [Member Name Removed] herself."
"Although we try as hard as possible to satisfy all our clients unfortunately we are unable to satisfy every customer we provide services to, this just happens to be one of those customers. Consider that most of our reviews are A rated read them and make the call for yourself!"
"Thanks for the kind comments and the buisness!"
For the move itself, the guys arrived very promptly & were willing to wait with me for the previous owner of the mantel to show up to let us into the house. They were polite and pleasant throughout.
It was truly impressive to watch the team at work. Their attention to detail and obvious expertise with the materials was evident throughout the process. Thanks to their painstaking efforts, the mantel was removed from the wall without any breakage to the mantel itself, and with no damage to the wall.
First (and unrelated to Firenza) we had Marvin Windows replace the old kitchen casement windows with an awning window. Marvin had replaced the sliding glass doors from the dinette area that exit to the deck the previous year.
We were guided through the project by Dave Dozanti (salesman & designer) and Mike & Missy Fimiani. Missy assisted greatly in selecting color combinations. Firenza supplied all elements of the project with the exception of the appliances.
We were torn between granite and quartz, finally settling on granite, and then finding out our selection was not available in the quantity we needed. This caused a problem later with the tile backsplash. But we went out to a granite warehouse off 271 near Walton Hills, where we found 3 very nice granite slabs that complimented our color vision.
Once demolition began, it took several months for Firenza to beautifully perform all the elements of the project.
The installed a new hardwood floor that was manufactured by Sheoga Hardwood Flooring Co in Middlefield, OH.
Their electricians re-worked the lighting and circuitry in the kitchen and dining area. The lighting project included installing 12 LED can lights in the ceiling, replacing the four that were original. They added pendant lighting over the kitchen island and over- cabinet and under-cabinet LED lighting.
We selected, and Firenza's subs installed, Kraft Maid cherry cabinetry that incorporate self closing drawers and doors and all kinds of innovative space utilization features -- slide out shelves, lazy susans, drawer dividers, and an under-sink liner to combat spills and dampness.
The ceramic tile backsplashes turned out to be the biggest problem we had. My wife and I were unhappy with the first tile that was installed, we asked Mike Fimiani (one of the owners of Firenza) to have his guys take it down as we had mis-selected the color and texture. Fimiani did not hesitate to comply. The second selection went much better and compliments cabinetry and granite very well. We ended up paying extra for more tile and labor, but that was to be expected given our request for change.
Their drywall guy repaired the ceiling trenches and matched the stippling pattern in the ceiling very well. Their painter painted the entire area.
Their carpenters installed new appliances, including a microwave drawer in the island and vented the exhaust fan outdoors. (Twenty-two years ago, the builder had originally dead-ended the exhaust fan in a soffit.)
Their plumber installed new granite sink, faucet, and garbage disposal.
All in all, it was a huge project that greatly disrupted our lives. But working with Mike Firenza helped immensely. We encountered all kinds of minor problems but Mike always took the attitude that his people would do whatever was necessary to resolve the issue to our satisfaction.
Recently, my wife and I went out of town for a week. On our return, I remarked to her that I had forgotten how nice our kitchen really had turned out.
Our master bathroom needs to be remodeled; we will be contacting Firenza soon to start that project.
"In response to the very confused customer we are dealing with here, we never had a contract with these people nor did we have any part of there kitchen ready to install, as a matter of fact we did not make a template because we never came to a contract agreement. Therefore, she must be confusing us with another company. As a matter of fact we currently are providing granite accessories for there bathroom remodel, interesting these people were bold enough to give us an F grade but are still using are services. GET A LIFE MOVE ON AND ENJOY YOUR NEW BATHROOM."
As part of the process we received an education about granite and about the companies trying to sell it. We started the processes with Firenza Stone at their showroom on Vine St. at Route 2. We already know that granite was "graded" by a letter system, and when a the showroom, the large selection of samples are graded A (lowest price) to F (highest price) with $10-$15 difference between each grade per square foot of stone. Then we went to several other stores. In each of these other cases, the samples in the stores were graded A through G or perhaps H (with the ability to pick from grades A-Z from wholesalers) with about $2 to $3 difference between grades per square foot. This raised many questions in our minds about why Firenza Stone was so much more from one grade to the next. We also knew that Firenza Stone had a warehouse of granite slabs. But other places seemed to only have samples and if we wanted to see whole slabs of material, to see the entire pattern of pieces that would be used, we would need to go to one of the two granite wholesalers in the Cleveland area to make our choices. We went back to Firenza Stone's warehouse to ask if we could or should go to one of the wholesalers to make a selection for them eventhough they had their own supply. It was suggested that we could, but they would prefer we select from their stock since they select and clear their stocks directly from the quarries and felt they had better quality control of the stone. It was during that visit, when they handed us brochures for each of the wholesalers that we realized what was going on with the grading. It turns out that Firenza Stone groups clusters of the A-Z selections into their A-F grade system. What this means is that an "A" from Firenza Stone accounts for something like grades A-E from others and Firenza Stones "B" is something like F-K for others, etc. We ended up selecting a Firenza Stone "C" grade that has a great character and receives great reactions from anyone we invite into our home. That would have been a mid alphabet selection from any of the other stores that they don't really talk about when they start talking about cost per square foot and few even have samples of something the character of the stone we bought.
Once we understood the differences in grading and the selection process, making the choice to go with Firenza Stone was easy. The ability to see more than 100 full slab samples at their warehouse was easy and convenient. After two visits to make a choice, we found that our favorite was completely spoken for (we needed 110 square feet!), but that another delivery from the same quarry would be on the next shipment (about a month or so). We were able to maintain contact with Anthony and when the shipment arrived, we were able to go make our selection the very first weekend it was available.
We were given a schedule of when measurements and installation would be done the same day we made our selection and the schedule was met. We had a small glitch with the tile where there was a shortage of an access peice we selected that delayed the installation of the backsplash, but it was only a minor problem.
After everything was "finished", we felt like something was not quite right with the center island. Eventually we figured out that it was cut too small and didn't have sufficient overhang to match the rest of the main kitchen area. It was not immediately obvious, but something seemed wrong and we confirmed the problem with measurements. We contacted Anthony, he checked on what happened, found that Firenza Stone had made a mistake and volunteered to make the situation right. We knew that there was more of the granite at the warehouse, but Anthony explained that it was all spoken for with another buyer at the time. They would be measuring that job in a couple of weeks and would determine if there would be a large enough peice to replace ours out of the current stock, and if not more of the same stone would be received later in the fall. Once the other job was sized, there was going to be a piece large enough to cut a new island top for us. All of the work is now complete and the kitchen is gorgious!
We have been vocal to our friends about how great Frienza Stone was to work with and not that everything is done, we thought it was time to share our experience with Angie's List readers.
