"The initial consultation was great. Our patio was incorrectly installed and needed to be fixed. John (the owner) and his team did a great job explaining was the errors of the original contractor. They also did a good job with the fix of the patio. The problem is that they broke our sprinkler system, our landscape lighting during the project. Once the patio fix project was complete, John did not respond to most of the text I sent regarding the damage they caused. He did fix the sprinkler system but his team also broke the landscape lighting. It was a severed line which is easy to do. I would have highly rated if they fixed the severed line but he would not respond whenever I reached out. "

Pavers and Hardscaping questions, answered by experts

The best tool to cut pavers is a hammer and chisel. These tools are best for inexperienced DIYers, as they're affordable and don't require special skills. If you're comfortable using power tools, an angle grinder or a circular saw with a masonry cutting wheel will make quick work of your paver cutting project.

Concrete driveways add the most value to your home because they last longer and have a better aesthetic appeal. However, depending on your climate, asphalt may be preferable as it handles freezing temperatures and high heat better than concrete.

Interlocking pavers can last 50 years or more, but you’ll need to keep up with some basic routine maintenance to get the most out of them. This includes regularly applying a sealant and keeping up with any weeds that start to grow within them. Avoid metal shovels in the winter, and only salt the pavers ahead of snow and ice if the pavers are part of a necessary walking path—salt and other chemical-based de-icers can take a toll on your pavers over time.

After removing existing moss, consider using paver blocking sand to fill the joints. This specialty material hardens once placed and serves as an effective barrier against moss and weeds. From there on, regularly clean your pavers and try to keep them dry. You can also seal your paver as a semi-permanent solution — just make sure you reseal every 3 to 5 years.

If you're designing a new patio in an area with poor drainage, permeable pavers made from porous materials may help prevent water issues. Most permeable pavers feature a gravel-only aggregate base instead of a concrete base to allow water to flow through instead of getting trapped. While beneficial in some cases, permeable pavers come with higher initial costs and greater load-bearing limitations compared to traditional pavers.
