"We are very pleased with the tree trimming and removals by Cajete Tree Service. Alejandro is very personable, skilled and knowledgeable in his profession. He made sure that everything we asked him to do was completed in a professional manner and understood the goals I had for my yard. He and Alex did a great amount of work at a reasonable price and we will definitely recommend him to friends who ask if we know “a good tree guy” as a matter of fact - because of his talent and knowledge I have already provided his information to 2 friends.😉 Both Alejandro and Alex are very hard workers and they cleaned up all of the tree debris at the end of the job. We had several trees removed and trimmed and are very satisfied with the outcome - so much so that we will definitely be calling them back again because we still have more tree work to be done. Thank you Cajete Tree Service for a job well done! Collene Herdman"

"When I called for a quote, he came within a day. Being very busy, I was told it might even be 6 weeks. They called me last night and said they could do it this morning at 8. So that was only a week. They were prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and fast. The arborist also told me that the tree did not need cabling which saved me some money! We also discussed what I will do in the future. They cleaned up the yard upon completion. I will use them again!"

"Maplewood was great to work with. They were very responsive when I inquired for a quote, was upfront and honest about the work and the cost. Unlike other tree service companies that we've interacted with, they worked with us on our specific request for the tree we need serviced and understood our need to keep some of the wood (when other companies we've worked in the past pushed a "all-service or nothing" approach). Would definitely recommend."

"Cody and his team of professionals did a wonderful job under stressful and hazardous conditions. We had a tree fall into another tree as a result of a lightning strike. They were there with an hours to help us litigate further damage to the property. I would highly recommend Cody and Ramsey Tree Service for any of your Tree Service needs. In fact, Cody will be my first call. Going forward for any type of tree or arborist needs."

"After completing a previously scheduled job, COTTS followed up with me promised. Gave me a very reasonable estimate to grind several stumps in the front and back yard. They were professional and efficient! I highly recommend COTTS for your tree-service needs."

"During a very bad wind storm, I had an uprooted large pine that fell on my house, with a good portion of the tree on my roof. At the base the tree was 2' feet in diameter and was about 30' tall. It hovered above a large bedroom window, with an air conditioning condenser directly below it. After asking Home Adviser for help, I received a phone call within about 10 minutes and a visit, by their estimator, to my home within about an hour. Special arrangements were made, because of the danger of the tree on my roof, that the estimator made arrangements to have the tree removed later that day. The estimator was in touch with me through the day until they arrived that same day about 4 hours later. The crew using heavy rope, multiple pulleys, and a come-along, literally pulled the tree upright, back into the hole and away from the house with no additional damage done to the house. They then cut the tree down in a direction away from the house. After the tree was down, they quickly cut it up, cleaned up after themselves and away they went. The price was very reasonable and they all were very pleasant. I highly recommend these guys if you ever have a tree to take down or to remove from your property."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Some fast-acting products can rot a tree stump in four to six weeks. Keep in mind, these products contain harsh chemicals that may prevent regrowth in the area. Other products, like fertilizer that contains lots of nitrogen, can enhance the process and rot a stump in about a year. (This is compared to the ten years it can take naturally for a stump to rot.)

If you want to take your tree-planting hobby beyond your outdoor space, here are a few great ways to do it:

  • Encourage your neighbors to participate in the Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree City USA program, which has a four-step framework that helps communities grow and maintain their own tree cover.

  • Support businesses that plant trees.

  • Lobby your local government to plant more trees around your community.

  • Donate to a tree-planting charity.

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.

If it’s only a smaller branch that has died and you’re keeping an eye on the tree, it’s probably nothing to worry about. But if other nearby branches start dying off as well, or a very large branch dies, then you likely have a bigger problem. It’s time to watch for diseases and other problems and possibly get professional guidance on how to proceed.

Deciduous shade trees (the type of trees whose leaves fall off in autumn) need to be pruned in late winter—between February and March. That’s because it’s easier to find and remove sick or dead branches when no leaves are present. And wounds close and heal faster in colder temperatures so pruning them at this time also makes them less prone to infection.
