"Heavens Tree Service did an incredible job at our house. We had trees over hanging structures and need them removed but we're apprehensive. Heavens Tree Service listened to our concerns and explained the step by step process they would use to remove the trees. This really helped put our minds at ease. They were very knowledgeable and professional. Service was timely and prompt. Their rates are very fair and reasonable. I will definately be using them again. I highly recommend Heavens Tree Service."

"I've seen the Maplewood Tree Service trucks in our neighborhood and had a neighbor recommend their work, so I thought I'd give them a call. Shane followed-up within five minutes and sent someone over to give us an estimate the same day. I've got 4 large trees on my property and they are now all trimmed away from my roof!"

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

The ideal depth of a tree notch depends on the tree, but it should usually be between 20% and 25% of the tree’s depth. However, if the tree is leaning towards the direction of the notch, it can be cut more shallowly—at as little as 10% of the depth. When the tree is leaning away from the direction it needs to be felled, you can cut deeper, closer to 30%.

Not every arborist climbs trees, but most will do so if that’s the best method for assessing or treating a tree. Arborists have a variety of tree climbing gear and safety equipment to choose from when climbing trees. Consult your local arborist about their tree-climbing plan if your service requires that type of task.

The depth of tree roots depends on the species. Trees like oaks and maples can have root systems that grow down 20 feet or more. However, trees that grow in shallow soils will have roots that go only a few feet down. Research how your tree species grows in your climate area to estimate root depth.

It’s not as common for Dutch elm disease to affect other types of trees, especially if the surrounding trees aren’t elms. However, it is possible for DED to spread to other trees, particularly in northern states, like Minnesota. In fact, it’s a good idea to use geography to identify wood and determine which types of trees are in your yard.

Unfortunately, the complex and shallow root system of elm trees makes surrounding elm trees particularly vulnerable to DED. Early discovery is key!

Planting a palm tree close to your home can provide shade while elevating the beauty of your yard. However, there are a few safety concerns to consider before doing so. You’ll want to opt for a smaller tree with a non-invasive root system. Select a species that won’t grow too tall and choose a planting location that won’t damage your home.
