"Excellent work from start to finish. My father was a mason, so I know great work when I see it. First, they brought in a tear-down team to remove the chimney down to the first-floor roof level of our two-story house. After which, they rebuilt the chimney to original height installing approximately 900 new bricks using a new Type N mortar. They installed a new 5" thick concrete crown with a 2" drip edge and an expansion joint. They replaced all accessible sections of fireplace clay flue tile extending 4" - 6" above the concrete crown. Installed new stainless steel chimney cap. Installed 2 sets of new step and counter flashing. Installed 2 sets of new ice water shields and shingles as needed. Cleaned and weather sealed chimney entirely upon completion. After the chimney rebuild was done, the Mason, Seth, and his crew cleaned the work site, to include the whole driveway. They are a very efficient and thorough team. I understand that they like to leave the customer's house and yard as clean or better than they find it."

"Very pleased with the services performed. Everything was punctual, professional, and efficient from the inspection and estimate visit to the repair services. Workers were clean and careful around the property, and kept us informed of their progress. The work areas were picked up and cleaned after completion of the repairs. The new crown looks great and the we're happy to be using the fireplace again. All work included in the estimate was completed exactly as promised and we had no issues with anything needing to be redone or called back for completion. I'd highly recommend! Compared to another company we had provide an inspection and estimate, Moseley personnel were factual and informative in their assessment of the chimney condition and didn't use "scare tactics" and pressure. Moseley's pricing was the best as well."

"Great! It was a pleasure working with the owner Joe Orrender. He's very prompt with all communications. His team installed the equipment and was interrupted by me several times because I had a few questions. They were very professional in answering and made sure I had all the information I needed. The look of our house at night certainly exceeded my expectations."

"My chimney was severely damaged by tree limbs during recent wind storm. Blue sky repaired the damage and actually made improvements. All for a very reasonable price! Thanks Blue Sky, I would surely hire them again."

Fire Pit Installation questions, answered by experts

Yes, you should seal and cap an unused chimney to protect it from damage. Sealing the structure helps prevent moisture damage, which can lead to issues like cracks, spalling, efflorescence, and damaged mortar joints. Capping the chimney is also crucial to prevent blockages, damage from invasive critters, and downdrafts, while still allowing for proper air ventilation to manage moisture. For the best results, consult a chimney professional to select the right type of chimney or flue cap for your home. It's also wise to continue with annual chimney inspections to maintain the structure's integrity.

Yes, it is possible. An electrical fire can break out if the compressor has inadequate ventilation. When it overheats but doesn't have a proper thermal cutout, this can cause the motor to short-circuit and catch fire. This risk is exacerbated if flammable materials, like dust and fallen leaves, are clogging the unit. The compressor overheating won't start a fire by itself, but poor maintenance and installation can increase the risk once it hits its breaking point and short-circuits.

A chimney requires both a cover and a cap, but these parts often get confused with one another. A chimney cover seals the top of the chimney around the flue pipe to prevent water from entering the chimney. A chimney cap is a piece that sits above the flue to prevent animals, debris, and water from entering the flue.

Yes, windows being painted shut is a fire hazard. Because windows painted shut may have locks that stick or cannot be opened easily in an emergency, this becomes an immediate fire hazard that should be dealt with.

Most homeowners put a layer of compact sand or gravel at the bottom of their firepit, but you can also choose more decorative options like fire-resistant paving stones, bricks, or fire pit glass. Dirt by itself can even work, but other materials do a better job of spreading the heat around.
