"They found a replacement part very quickly. The main faucet in the bathroom is leaking so they fix it. They fix another valve wich is leaking a bit. The price is reasonable. The handyman is very competent. Over all I'm very satisfied."

"John, of Affordable Professional Plumbing, replaced a dead sump pump late in the evening because he knew the damage that could be done to our finished basement, if it wasn't done promptly. He arrived when he said he would and completed the job efficiently. I highly recommend Affordable Professional Plumbing and I will only call them for future plumbing projects."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

PEX pipe is safe for drinking water, though it wasn't always. PEX was introduced in European water supply systems in the 1980s, but early versions of the piping deteriorated when exposed to the higher chlorine levels in U.S. water supplies. Antioxidants were added to PEX piping to meet U.S. potable drinking water standards. Today, it’s commonly used for drinking water.

You might be able to find your pipe leak by doing a visual inspection around your appliances and under your sink. Don’t forget to check your water heater too. If you find moisture or puddles of water, then you know you’re on the right track—you may need a repair or water heater replacement.

Knowing how to find a water leak can be tricky, but you can try the paper towel method. Lay paper towels on the floor and see where the moisture lands. You can also wrap toilet paper around pipes to locate a small leak.

A sewage ejector pump is necessary if you have any plumbing fixtures, such as a bathroom, laundry room, or sink, located below the level of your home's main sewer line. Standard plumbing relies on gravity to move wastewater and solid waste to the municipal sewer or septic tank. However, for fixtures located below grade (e.g., in a basement), gravity is not sufficient.

The purpose of a sewage ejector pump is to actively pump this wastewater and solid waste upward into the main sewer line. Without an ejector pump in this situation, wastewater would have no way to exit and would eventually back up, causing a sewage overflow or flooding in your basement. If all of your home's plumbing is on the main floor or higher, gravity can handle the drainage, and an ejector pump is not needed.

Water backing up in your bathtub could be a clog in the bathtub drain, but it could also signal a problem somewhere else in your plumbing system. Blocked vent pipes caused by leaves, bird nests, or other debris,  along with blocked sewer lines that are damaged or have tree roots could cause backups in various fixtures.

Yes, a sprinkler system can leak even when it is turned off. This issue is often caused by a leaky valve, which may have a crack or hole that allows water to pass through. In many cases, repairing the valve will solve the problem. Another possibility is that water is simply finishing its draining cycle, which you might notice at the lowest sprinkler head as gravity pulls the remaining water out. More seriously, the leak could be due to improper grading of the system, which can lead to significant water waste. It's also possible that what appears to be a leak is actually just poor drainage in your yard. If you suspect a leak, it's a good idea to have a professional take a look to diagnose the exact cause.
