"Bernard & Gary were wonderful. The glass in my double hung window (kitchen) was replaced and the vinyl was re-coiled. All in just a half an hour! Last year we had a new patio door installed. Just love it! The quality of their products are top-notch."

"The job was completed in around 4 days. I had them install a brand new concrete driveway and garage floor. Workers were polite and efficient. Willing to work with you while they prepare for the pour. Deal with changes you would like (I.E curved forms for walkways ect..) They got all permits needed quickly, delt with the city directly, & made sure everything was done to code. Will definitely be using this company for future concrete work."

"I was looking to have a window screen replaced. Dave answered the initial email through Home Advisor by calling me immediately. He then came to give me an estimate within 24 hours. The price was very reasonable, work was completed within 2 days, and quality was excellent. Dave was easy to get hold of by phone and he came when he promised he would. I will definitely use him for other home repairs in the future. Highly recommended."

"My husband and I hired Ohio Basement Systems to complete our basement waterproofing project. We were satisfied with the work that was done. The company provides great customer service and follows through on their commitment to complete the project. In particular our experience with Kevin Sweeney and Alex was wonderful! Kevin has been great as project manager, answering any questions we had about our system during and after install. Alex came out to do our one year routine inspection. It was a rainy day of the appointment and he took off his shoes before coming into the house, was courteous of our house."

Window Door Contractors questions, answered by experts

While sometimes used interchangeably, screen doors and storm doors have key differences. Screen doors are simple structures, typically composed of just a frame and a screen, designed to keep out bugs while allowing air circulation. In contrast, storm doors are heavier and more complex, built to protect your home's main entry door from weather and intruders. They usually feature an aluminum frame with interchangeable tempered glass and screen panels, allowing you to switch between ventilation and insulation. A storm door offers more protection and versatility but generally costs more than a basic screen door.

Window screens are available in several standard sizes. Common dimensions include 24 to 36 inches wide by 36 to 48 inches tall, as well as sizes like 18 by 14 inches and 20 by 20 inches. These often correspond to standard window sizes, such as 2 feet wide by 3 feet tall or 4 feet wide by 6 feet tall. Screens are also sold in replacement rolls to accommodate various dimensions. It is always best to measure your windows for accuracy before a repair or replacement. If your windows are a non-standard size, you will likely need to order custom screens, which can increase the cost. However, a screen does not necessarily have to fit the entire window, so you may be able to use a standard-size screen even if your window is slightly larger.

Most windows last for 15 to 30 years, depending on the frame material and the glass quality, but most will require repairs during that time. Windows gradually lose efficiency, so it’s usually best to have a window repair technician inspect and service your windows every five to 10 years. You should also repair your windows if you experience the following:

  • Leaks

  • Drafts

  • Difficulty opening or closing

  • Sudden increases in heating and cooling bills

  • Outdoor noise becomes more audible

  • Signs of physical damage

Yes, a variety of screen materials cut out glare from the sun. Solar screen material can block up to 90% of the glare and heat from the sun, saving on cooling costs. It also offers privacy yet unlimited outward visibility. The cost depends on the size of the screen roll, but solar screens cost between $25 and $90 per roll.

Among the various entry points into your residence, it's crucial to recognize that your basement windows are arguably the most susceptible. Basements usually have windows facing the side and back yards, often concealed from driveway floodlights, porch lighting, and doorbell cameras. Their vulnerability underscores the importance of reinforcing basement window security to safeguard your home from break-ins.
