Glass block windows come in various patterns and styles that offer privacy and unique aesthetics. Frosted or textured glass diffuses light and enhances privacy. Wave-pattern glass blocks imitate ocean waves with flowing lines. Ice-glass blocks resemble cracked ice. Fluted glass blocks feature parallel vertical grooves, adding texture and depth. Clear glass blocks, similar to glass Coke bottles, offer transparency with some distortion and may have smooth surfaces or subtle textures, adding visual interest.
The best way to pack mirrors is to use specially padded cartons or boxes made for mirrors. Be sure to thoroughly wrap the fragile mirror in padded paper or bubble wrap before sliding it into its box. That way, there’s a protective barrier in between the mirror and the box. Then, fill in any gaps with crumpled paper or additional packing materials.
To tell if a window is single or double-pane, focus on the edge. Double-pane windows have two glass layers separated by a spacer, which you can usually see around the edges. For single-pane windows, it’s just one sheet of glass. Another easy trick: shine a light at the window—single-pane glass reflects once, while double-pane glass reflects twice. While wavy glass is sometimes called antique glass or restoration glass due to the fact that it's found exclusively in older homes, the proper names for wavy glass are actually crown glass and cylinder glass. Most commonly used for circular or portal windows, crown glass was created by manufacturers using a process of blowing and spinning. Meanwhile, cylinder glass was used more commonly because it created large square sheets that could be shaped to fit windows of all shapes and sizes.
For small, non-pressure-related cracks, you can fix them using two-part epoxy. This spares you the cost and hassle of replacing the glass. Simply clean the surface and remove any debris or dirt, wait for the glass to dry, then spread an even layer of mixed epoxy solution over the crack. You can use a putty knife or rubber spatula to push the epoxy into the crack.
