"Mark was super easy to work with and our fence looks great. He was responsive and honest and upfront through the whole process. He gave us great advice on how to get what we were looking for, was honest about the time frame, and answered all of our questions very promptly. I wish all business owners were this nice to work with and I recommend him 100%."

"Excellent work. He and his crew spend several days power washing and then painting the deck and fence, during some very hot and humid days. They were professional and made every effort to keep over spray off of neighbors lawn. I would use him any time I need painting done. I have a very big fence and the deck was showing a lot of wear. Both look great. I would recomend Mr Garrity and his team to anyone. I am super pleased with the outcome.

"Savant did an amazing job on our project. They had the whole job completed in 2.5 days. The pricing was very competitive. We received several quotes for the work and Savant was cheaper than most other contractors. With the service and quality of work we received I would say they are well worth the the cost. We even had some leaking on the garage roof and where other companies had quoted us to replace all of the wood for the roof, Savant was able to replace just the rotted boards and saved us hundreds if not thousands. Excellent work at an excellent price."

"He connected with his fence guy and away went the fix. Step 1 he was able to fix the fence so my mom could at least open the gate without lifting it off the ground first then Step 2 he came back the next week and finished the job. My mom couldn’t be happier. From what started out as a big mess, Jim & Team was able to get the job done quickly with a happy ending. Thanks so much!."

"An eight foot section of PVC fence was taken down buy a very large branch. He was able to repair it to like new condition. I sent him many pictures with dimensions and he was able to put it back together without having to replace it with a new panel. The fence I had was a discontinued style. He saved me money and didn't have to replace it with something that would not match. I'd recommend him to anyone.

"We've used Jaime about 10 times. . . . .we don't feel there is anyone else worth calling in the area, can do it all. Ran new electrical box to wall and installed electric fireplace in our finished basement side. Jaime had to get creative as the wall was discovered to be solid and not regular drywall. But he does it like it's nothing. Thanks again."

"Great job!! Contacted Marc and discussed painting a 1962 split-level frame home. The house had a lot of peeling paint and needed a lot of TLC. Marc came out and looked at the house and made an estimate. We discussed at length proper paint surface preparation. After a number of calls fine tuning on what would be done, we decided to have Marc do the work. First, the complete house was power washed. Ample time was given to allow house to dry before scraping. Aggressive scraping started next removing flaking old paint. Oil priming and caulking came next. Marc suggested using Peel Bond to help level the surface to make the finished surface more smooth. Also, many other things were addressed that were not part of the estimate (fixing loose threshold for side door, replacing broken wood trim on front bay window, r&r house numbers, painting front gaslight, just to mention a few things). Finish coats were then applied. During this whole process, Marc's brother Mike was always on the job working as well as guiding the other workers on the job. Mike really did a wonderful job. In addition, things were kept neat, clean and orderly. Communication was very good between everyone involved. Our neighbors watched very closely as the house was prepared, painted and commented what a thorough job that was done. The one neighbor wanted his house painted by them. Near the final touches on the house, several people stopped their cars in front of the house saying how nice it looked and wanted to know who was doing the work. All in all, enough can't be said what a wonderful job was done by both Marc & Mike. The house is now the sharpest on the street. Many, many thanks!!"

Fencing questions, answered by experts

There are many pros and cons to vinyl and composite fencing. Both fencing types offer longer lifespans than wood fencing, with some notable advantages. Whether one is better for you will depend on a few factors. Composite is better if you prefer recycled materials, while vinyl is extremely easy to clean.

Also, consider the disadvantages: vinyl can be more expensive, while composite fencing fades during the first six months.

Painting or staining protects fences from environmental damage, enhances durability, and improves curb appeal with a fresh, customized look.

There are pros and cons to vinyl fencing. The drawbacks are that it can be expensive up front compared to options like chain-link fencing and that it’s vulnerable to fading. The material is difficult to repair without replacing entire panels or the whole fence, and you can’t paint over vinyl to change the color. However, this material is impressively durable and easy to maintain, making it a good choice for many homes.

There are two things you can do to make a fence replacement easier—but keep in mind that easier doesn’t mean better. First, you can use a jack or some other type of machinery to pull the post out of the ground. If that’s not available, a digging bar can help.

Second, you can backfill the hole with gravel rather than creating a concrete footing. Keep in mind, gravel is less secure. You should only use it if you’re installing a lightweight fence or have heavier, clay soil.

Vinyl and chicken wire are two of the best and most affordable materials for a DIY garden fence. Vinyl is a great option because it is cost-effective, easy to work with, and effective at keeping pests out. A vinyl fence can cost as little as $15 per linear foot, especially if you install it yourself. Chicken wire is even more budget-friendly, costing as little as $2 per linear foot. While chicken wire is more affordable, vinyl is a better choice if privacy is a concern. You can also add chicken wire on top of a vinyl fence for extra security.
