"arrived on time and completed replacement of 3 basement glass block windows. Clean up of broken glass that fell into the house could have been better but not enough to change rating."

"Kevin was in the middle of relocating his store in March and he seemed really busy but he met me at Amy's new home. Kevin also let me keep the samples so that Amy and Steve could look at them once they had time to come over to the house. They are renting a home in Avon right now while they renovate their new home. The wood was installed first and even though the painter was delayed Kevin was very patient with the painter and rescheduled the installation. The carpet was just installed last week and the whole house looks great. Amy and Steve love it and they wish I would have picked the painter too but they chose him and he did not work out very well. They love the wood and the carpet. They keep telling all their friends they have memory foam padding in their new home. It's funny and cute and it makes me giggle.

"Two west facing windows of house were leaking at any hard rain.  Previous contractor slapped new windows in (improperly at that) and did not address total water problem. We are very satisfied with final repair.  Turns out that the problem was much bigger than just old windows.  This contractor took the time to show us exactly what the problems were and to systematically take care of what was really causing them.  In the process he also found other issues which he addressed and fixed as well (i.e., a duct pipe for our heating and cooling on that side of the house was also not attached properly).  All work was completed with attention to detail.  We did spend more than our original estimate, but there was also way more wrong with that area than was apparent on surface inspection. Before leaving on completion of the window/framing repair we received an estimate from him for remodeling that lower west side room and are using his services presently for that room remodel. We would very much recommend his work with confidence."

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

New glass costs anywhere from $3 to $100 per square foot. More specifically, tempered and insulated glass—a common option for sliding glass doors—costs between $10 and $14 per square foot.

Regular cleaning with non-abrasive cleaners helps prevent buildup and maintains clarity.

Luckily, glass block windows need minimal maintenance. Other than regular cleaning, the only maintenance involved in having a glass block window is inspecting for cracks every year and applying sealer to the mortar joints if the blocks are set in masonry mortar. Glass block windows hold up well against wind and moisture better than traditional windows and are not prone to rot.

Glass block windows typically last for 15 to 30 years, which is slightly less than the 20- to 50-year lifespan of standard windows. You can extend their life by resealing them every few years. Professional installation is also key to ensuring the windows are placed correctly and will function properly for years to come. A professional installer will have the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to install these features and can identify potential issues like damaged frames or cramped areas during a consultation.

Glass block windows come in various patterns and styles that offer privacy and unique aesthetics. Frosted or textured glass diffuses light and enhances privacy. Wave-pattern glass blocks imitate ocean waves with flowing lines. Ice-glass blocks resemble cracked ice. Fluted glass blocks feature parallel vertical grooves, adding texture and depth. Clear glass blocks, similar to glass Coke bottles, offer transparency with some distortion and may have smooth surfaces or subtle textures, adding visual interest.
