"arrived on time and completed replacement of 3 basement glass block windows. Clean up of broken glass that fell into the house could have been better but not enough to change rating."

"The friendly and professional team at A Glass Block Vision did an excellent job turning my 4 old basement windows into new glass block windows! Vented glass block is the way to go! I was very happy with the thorough explanation of my choices before I decided to buy. Highly recommended!"

"It went okay, except for three problems. One window had been measured incorrectly and had to be completed at a later time. Another window was not measured or replaced, despite reminding them that it still needed to be done. Finally, they broke a sliding glass door insert and didn't completely clean it up. I had to call them back to do it properly, and when they came, they had a bad attitude about it."

Customers say: Terrific value

"I had two leaded glass built-in cabinet doors that needed repair. The doors are close to the ground and kids had broken different panes over the years. Jim was very easy to work with. I was able to drop off and pickup the doors after hours. The quality of the repairs was excellent. I highly recommend contacting them for leaded or stained glass repair work."

"Brad Crawford was professional, personable and did a beautiful job of framing and installing 2 stained glass windows that my mother made over 40 years ago. The finished product is exactly as I pictured it and his craftsmanship is meticulous. Highly recommend."

"A wonderful experience all around. Bill came out to give my mother and I an estimate for 7 glass block windows for our basement. He showed us the various design samples for the blocks and took the time to explain the whole process and what to expect the on the day of installation. Tom and another gentleman(didn't get his name unfortunately) came out and completed the installation in about 3 hours. They were very professional and cleaned up after themselves. The windows look wonderful and add so much light into the basement. Would highly recommend this company."

"highly recommend global glass block! I hired a different company originally and they were a no-show after I took the day off of work to wait..after a Google search I found global. I called for an estimate they came out the same day to do the estimate and called me the next day with the price. I agreed and said let’s schedule.. they were booked out over seven weeks and I said that’s fine and waited.. The owner called me on Wednesday to confirm everything for today and then called again this morning to let me know the crew would be out within a half hour.. they showed up on time they put down tarps to keep everything clean and cleaned all of their mess up when they finished they were very friendly and professional.. The windows look amazing and I’m extremely happy from start to finish quoting the job to scheduling to installation and cleanup everything is perfect. Highly recommend this company!"

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

Glass block installation can be relatively expensive due to the range of material costs and the labor time to assemble this type of specialty window. The process proceeds slowly as the glass does not absorb moisture from mortar and silicone caulk takes longer to harden, leaving spacers to hold up the structure until the caulk or mortar begins to cure. Plus, if your current windows have structural issues or damage, you’ll need to repair them before beginning the project, increasing your bottom line.

Most installations take 1-3 days, depending on the number of blocks and customization requirements.

Glass block windows typically last for 15 to 30 years, which is slightly less than the 20- to 50-year lifespan of standard windows. You can extend their life by resealing them every few years. Professional installation is also key to ensuring the windows are placed correctly and will function properly for years to come. A professional installer will have the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to install these features and can identify potential issues like damaged frames or cramped areas during a consultation.

Glass block windows come in various patterns and styles that offer privacy and unique aesthetics. Frosted or textured glass diffuses light and enhances privacy. Wave-pattern glass blocks imitate ocean waves with flowing lines. Ice-glass blocks resemble cracked ice. Fluted glass blocks feature parallel vertical grooves, adding texture and depth. Clear glass blocks, similar to glass Coke bottles, offer transparency with some distortion and may have smooth surfaces or subtle textures, adding visual interest.

You can still see vaguely into some types of glass block windows at night. Although there won’t be clear definitions, passersby may still see shapes, shadows, and movement through the glass. If you want complete privacy, consider installing diamond glass block windows rather than the typical clear or wavy glass blocks.
