"Ari and his brother were clearly skilled at doing tile work. They were very exact and gave good attention to detail. They were careful to approach the job so that I would be satisfied with the decisions to be made and the outcome. They are reliable, hard workers, and very pleasant."

"I first used All Phase to have a decrepit old outside wall with windows torn down and rebuilt. From the minute I met Zach, I felt comfortable hiring him. He listens, understands and shares his knowledge on the best approach for the best results. He stayed in constant contact and get this, he showed up on time, every time!! The professionalism, workmanship, efficiency and results are amazing. Since that day, I have hired All Phase for outside painting, plumbing and some minor electrical work. I even called him when I was having problems with my pool filter. It was a task most people wouldn't have bothered with. Zach was nice enough to showup again for me. I've already scheduled him to do a major front porch project this spring. I have recommended him to friends and neighbors and every single one hired him on the spot. In fact, they've all thanked me for the referral. I highly recommend calling All Phase today. Not only will you be satisfied, you'll be happy you did...guaranteed!!!"

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can tile over existing shower tiles, but it's better to remove the old tiles first for the best results. Tiling over existing tiles requires a clean, level surface and proper adhesion. If the old tiles are in good condition, you can roughen the surface to improve adhesion. However, removing the old tiles ensures a smoother, longer-lasting finish and prevents potential issues down the line.

There are no unbreakable rules of design, but experts recommend against using large tiles in areas with poor subflooring where they’re more prone to cracking, in areas where the floor isn’t entirely level, over raised areas or dips, and in bathrooms where budget is the primary concern. The size of your bathroom shouldn’t be a reason not to use large tiles; in fact, larger tiles, also known as slab tiles, can be a modern and sleek choice for bathroom floors and walls.

Travertine is a natural stone, while porcelain is ceramic. You can enjoy the best of both worlds with porcelain travertine tiles. Some people prefer porcelain to travertine because it doesn’t require regular maintenance and it’s easier to clean. Porcelain travertine looks like the real thing but only costs $3 to $6 per square foot.

It’s best to start with tiling the shower floor before moving on to the walls for the most visually-pleasing results. When taking on any tiling project, you’ll want the wall tiles to “sit” neatly on the floor tiles rather than overlapping them. Finishing your floor tiles first will allow you to place your wall tiles without any gaps, holes, or awkward intersections.

Tile will almost always last longer than laminate flooring, regardless of the type of tile installed. Porcelain tile can last for 75 years or more with proper care, and even less durable ceramic tile will last for 60 years or more, provided they’re installed by a tile professional. On the other hand, laminate flooring has an average lifespan of around 20 years, and you might only get 10 to 15 years out of low-cost laminate flooring. As such, tile will add far more value to your home than laminate.
