"Ryan is an excellent electrician. We asked him to change a switch for bathroom light. He was able to fix potentially dangerous wiring and replace the switch. He also replaced two wall sconces. He is careful and meticulous in his approach to any job. He has done many jobs at our home that other electrical services did not fix. I would reckon highly"

"My specialized ceiling fan had stopped working. JME Electric came out and diagnosed the problem. I required a new receiver and remote control transmitter. They ordered it on line. As soon as they had the part (9 days later), Jake, the owner called me to schedule the follow-up appointment. Then, they came back and fixed the problem in 10 minutes! The fan (remote control) works great now! For each appointment, they were able to accommodate MY busy schedule. They were respectful of my time, always arriving on time. I highly recommend GME Electric for your electric and ceiling fan needs."

"Jeff installed four security lighting fixtures for me. He had to do a little extra on one as the sensor was bad. He arrived on time and completed the work in a very timely manner. His work as high quality and his bill was more than reasonable for the time spent. He is preparing another estimate for running wiring out to my shed."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Completing electrical upgrades in Schenectady offers immediate safety improvements, stable power, and peace of mind. Over time, you’ll benefit from increased property value, greater energy efficiency, and readiness for smart home features or electric vehicles. Modern wiring can lower insurance premiums and utility bills. Upgrades also help preserve Schenectady’s historic homes, making your property more attractive to future buyers.

Helpful?

Schenectady homeowners should schedule annual electrical inspections, especially in homes with aging infrastructure. After harsh winters, check outdoor outlets and basement wiring for moisture or rust. Test GFCI outlets monthly, and inspect your panel before heavy summer AC use. Pay attention to attic wiring after hot spells and ensure all outlets are securely covered. Regularly review surge protection and update smoke detectors as needed.

Helpful?

New Schenectady homeowners should begin with a thorough electrical inspection to identify outdated wiring or panels common in older homes. Install smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, add GFCI outlets in bathrooms and kitchens, and clearly label the electrical panel. Test all outlets for proper grounding, plan for surge protection, and consider upgrading lighting to energy-efficient options. Prioritize safety and code compliance from the start.

Helpful?

In Schenectady, start spring by checking for winter-related damage to outdoor outlets and basement wiring. Inspect attic and panel wiring during summer heat, and prepare outlets and heating connections in fall. In winter, watch for condensation or ice near electrical components. Keep a detailed log of all inspections, test GFCIs monthly, and promptly address any issues by scheduling a professional review if concerns arise.

Helpful?

In Schenectady, telltale signs that electrical work may need redone include persistent breaker trips, flickering lights, or outlets that feel warm or emit a burning odor. Older homes often have outdated knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring, which can be unsafe. Look for missing GFCI outlets in kitchens or bathrooms, corroded exterior fixtures, and evidence of DIY or unpermitted work—especially in historic neighborhoods.
