"I had used AFM years ago for an assessment of my homes sloping floors. I asks for a reassembly to determine if I now needed foundation work. I appreciate the professionalism showed by the Engineer. He was prompt, courteous and answered all of my questions. I believe that his fee was reasonable for the service offered. He explained what the issues were with my home. He offered different solutions for me. His staff was very helpful as well. If I ever need an Engineer this will be the company that I will call."

"Juan Medina is an exceptional engineer. He helped me design a dormer, house structure and was my inspector for DOB from start to finish. He is competent, generous, and professional all throughout. He made the entire process as simple and painless as possible. A reasonable and trustworthy engineer is hard to find and I would encourage anyone to use Juan Medinaâ s services."

"Neil was thoughtful and took his time to look at everything we wanted to show him. As he looked around he also made verbal suggestions on things that needed to be fixed that was not necessarily a part of the structure of the house, but to be safe; that was appreciated."

"After hurricane sandy in 2012 a lot of people in Brooklyn and  Long Island got flooded a lot of home owners received flood damages or  lost their property due to Hurricane Sandy... I am living on Cony Island Seagate  area at that time I was home with my Family and how a remember the water came up to my house and flooded my basement and first floor of my house... I was very scared and desperate.... We basically lost everything at the first and basement floor...
We have received some help from FEMA like every homeowner in that area  but the rest was huge loss from our pockets...
We found structureline based on recommendations and we started to do renovation...Nicholas the General Manager helped us out to apply for a small loan so we could begin the  renovation...We needed to do a complete  house renovation ....
They took off the walls  in the basement and 1st floor, they did mold disinfection, replaced all drywall's, wiring, boiler, windows, doors, siding etc..
They did remodeling on the master bathroom from the first floor and kitchen, they did a wonderful job...We love their new engineered Hardwood floor and the new design of the bathroom with the big bathtub and shower cabinet ... The price we spend ed was a little higher than we were   expected because we did some design work in the living room and Kitchen but for sure it worth it....If Someone will ask me for a recommendation for sure I will recommend Structureline because they helped me out at that time ....Thanks"

"For weeks my wife and I had been plagued by leaks into the house, stemming from meltwater backup from large ice dams on the roof and in the gutters. BELLA DRYWALL (a.k.a. BDW Roofing) was the first outfit to respond out of several that I called on Sunday, 1/30. They came promptly as promised and worked steadily for 4 1/2 hours under quite adverse conditions, as they had to carry their ladders through knee-deep snow to get to all sides of the house. To my surprise, they did not charge us for the last half hour of work. I added the amount to the check anyway, as I felt they deserved it. I can't give a price comparison, as I did not get this information from the other two companies that bothered to respond, but I think their price was fair and reasonable. I would certainly use them again if needed., and the leaks have stopped"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

The essential difference between an architect and an engineer is that architects typically focus more on the aesthetic design of buildings, although not without consideration for the structural integrity of the building. Engineers focus more on the structural, technical, and practical aspects of whether and how an architectural design can be built as drawn. You may need to hire both types of professionals if you’re designing and building a new home.

Structural engineers specialize in all aspects of a building’s structural integrity, including the foundation. Foundation engineering is a critical part of structural engineering, so structural engineers are experts in foundation design. Many foundation repair companies either have a structural engineer on staff or one they work closely with, so be sure you look for that when deciding who to hire for foundation repair.

Costs depend on material choices, labor, and the extent of structural modifications.

Most structural engineers offer free quotes, regardless of the size of the job. For simple inspections when buying or selling a home, engineers typically charge a flat fee that may be based solely on your home’s foundation type and square footage. For larger projects, like new construction and major home renovations, an engineer will either perform an analysis of your project and site and provide you with a formal estimate, or they will do a more in-depth assessment and in-person site inspection before coming up with a per-hour or per-project cost estimate. In most cases, the estimate is free.

The average cost to hire a structural engineer is about $550, with prices generally ranging from $200 to $1,500. Structural engineers may charge a flat rate, by the project, by square footage, or an hourly rate, which is typically between $100 and $250. Many jobs, such as inspections and structural calculations, are billed at a flat rate, which often falls between $300 and $800. The final cost depends on several factors, including the project's type, scope, size, complexity, ease of access for inspection, and your geographic location.
