Customers say: True professional

"We hired Moretti Landscaping and Masonry to remove an old gravel driveway which had old asphalt underneath. Frank came to the house, gave an estimate, and filed for the permit in my Village! That was a big help with permitting and documentation, etc.,. The project turned out great. The crew of workers was A+, really great guys and workers! They work fast, neat and professionally. I recommend Moretti Landscaping and Masonry based on my experience and project. 1"

Customers say: Quality work

"We had a great experience working with James and his team to install a patio in our backyard. James helped us understand the different available materials and methods for installation, and he was transparent about pricing. He even encouraged us to come to the masonry supply store with him to see the stones in person to make sure we liked what we were getting. James and his team also helped us solve some drainage issues in the backyard, repaired our side stairs and replaced the stucco, and fixed some issues with our front walk. Even when unexpected scenarios came up, they were handled thoughtfully and efficiently. Everyone was very friendly and worked really well together. It's very clear James cares a lot about his work, and he wanted us to be happy with the result. Overall everything went faster than I expected and looks beautiful!"

"Work was professionally done. We encountered more serious problems than we anticipated, but the staff of Terra Firma were qualified and knew how to remedy the serious problem. They finished the work ahead of schedule and returned the yard to even better conditions! Their staff were courteous, hard working and professional. The many questions we had as the job was being done were answered immediately, photos taken to let me know what was going on, and calls to the contractor were answered immediately."

Customers say: Quick response

"The first company that was referred to me by Home Advisor was a perfect fit. I called Frank Franciamore Lawn Care and Landscaping Services on a Sunday and Frank returned the call the same day. His over 40 years experience was evident in his responses to my many questions I posed with the issues that were problematic with my lawn. Specifically, a grassy weed QUACKGRASS that had invaded my lawn. Frank agreed to come over to my house a few days later to review the work that needed to be done. He took measurements and discussed the scope of work. The ground had to be graded, compost and fertilizer applied with the requested Bluegrass sod blend. Frank submitted by email a project proposal with the estimated cost which I agreed to. The rain delayed the cutting and delivery of the sod. When the sod was delivered he and his crew were fantastic. They were prompt, reasonable, responsive and hardworking. They made my yard come to life and everything came out as promised and right on budget. The lawn rivals any professional golf course. I am especially pleased with all my interactions with Frank. His hands on approach to my project, attention to detail and consistent prompt responses to my texts and emails is a credit to his consummate professionalism. I could not be happier. We have retained his company to provide maintenance programs including fertilizing, mowing, edging, weed control, shrub trimming, mulching, cleanup of landscaped area and leaf removal. I highly recommend Frank Franciamore Lawn Care and Landscaped Services for all your landscape needs."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

As much as you might try to keep a healthy, nutrient-rich lawn, you still may notice signs of St. Augustine decline (SAD)—a viral disease that discolors your grass blades. St. Augustine decline looks like:

  • Discoloration in the leaves (chlorosis)—leaves appear yellow and splotchy

  • Decline in growth

  • Leaves turn black within 3 years

  • Grass appears less vibrant

  • Grass begins to thin

  • Root rot

  • Grass takes longer to recover

The best time to plant is between spring and autumn. Springtime weather is typically mild and is when nurseries start to bloom. When the summer weather arrives and it’s hot out, it’s best to avoid planting bare-root plants, but you can still plant many in-container varieties. The first sign of fall is another great opportunity to plant biennials if you live in southern states, or a lovely vegetable garden up north.

The cost to plant a small tree or sapling is between $100 and $300 on average, if you hire a professional. Big trees will cost more and usually require the work of a specialist, so expect to pay over $1,000 for those.

The soil around your foundation should slope down and away from your home, not toward it. If the grading drops the farther you are from your home, you can enhance the slope by removing more soil. Mark off a few feet from your house and dig up some of this soil. Regrading around your fountain should encourage water to flow away from your home and not collect or “pond.”

Most bamboo can send roots down two to three feet into the ground. However, when stopping bamboo from spreading, the focus is on the runner roots or rhizomes. These roots are much shallower, staying 12 inches or less from the surface, so they’re easier to find and remove. But if you want to remove the bamboo entirely, you’ll have to dig out the full root system.
