"Mike Connelly of Shamrock Electric Co. Coordinated the installation of my whole house Generac generator with PSEG long island and my plumber. He connected the automatic transfer switch and fully tested the system upon completion of the install. He has it set to run a test for 10 minutes once a week. "Excellent work by Joe D. and Jorge C. on a recent home renovation. 80% of the old light fixtures were swapped for new ones. The guys arrived at the home within the time window quoted. They installed the new light fixtures carefully and in a reasonable amount of time. Many were ceiling fixtures, requiring ladders to complete the job. The ladders were placed safely and respectful of the recently painted walls and ceilings. The completed job was absolutely outstanding! Major props to Joe and Jorge for doing a phenomenal job! I will definitely call on BQ Electric again for any future electrical work."

"I knew I needed to get a new circuit board because the old one kept blowing out. Antonio Ferrao sent his truck over within hours of my call and his men inspected my old circuit board and showed me the problem circuit breakers and even the discolored area around one which was heating up. They gave me a quote with 10% off if I could pay cash. I hired them. They came the next day, and kindly kept my generator on so I could have electricity while they shut off the main line to change the circuit board. They were fast, efficient, labeled all the new circuit breakers, and cleaned up completely. I would recommend them to anyone."

The common, marked as COM or C, is one of the terminals found in your light switch. It houses the live wire that supplies the input voltage. The other terminals, marked as L1 or L2, are the outputs to the light fixtures. Depending on if you have a one-way or two-way switch, you’ll either have just an L1 terminal or both an L1 and L2 terminal.

GFCI outlets generally need to be replaced every 7 to 15 years, though some may fail in as little as 5 years, depending on usage. It is important to test them regularly. Signs that a GFCI outlet is failing or has reached the end of its lifespan include: no power coming from the outlet, the outlet not resetting when the 'reset' button is pressed, or the outlet not tripping when the 'test' button is pressed. If you have a half-hot outlet, it means half of the outlet is controlled by a switch somewhere on the same circuit, which should be nearby. This is an intentional electrical design commonly found in rooms without overhead lights.
