"I was very happy with my experience using this company. In the middle of a heat wave, right before the July 4th holiday, my AC stopped working. The man who installed it and had been servicing it was too busy to come for a week. I called MSD and was given an appointment for 8 AM the next morning. They were prompt and courteous, fixed my problem, and were reasonably priced. I will be calling them in the future."

"Vincent, the technician, arrived wearing a mask (pandemic times), observed social distancing, and was skillful and quick at performing the job. He took the time to explain the new thermostats to me and set them for me after I requested it. He cleaned up, left no mess. NH Ross installed my new boiler which is working great!"

"We were fortunate enough that we had Mike, who assisted in completing the installation of an ACiQ HVAC system that had been attempted but failed by another business. He was able in getting this highly automated, fully computerized, next-generation modell ACiQ HVAC system up and running. Iâ d like to emphasize that multiple companies refused the installation claiming that this system was too complex and they have no experience. Mike took the time to look into it, understand it and make it work. Excellent job, I would highly recommend him."

Install Boiler questions, answered by experts

Always consult your manual for specific pressure numbers. Many expansion tanks come pre-pressurized at a specific PSI range, anywhere from 12 to 40 PSI, designed for a range of home boilers. You should not have to pressurize an expansion tank yourself, only the boiler system. If your system has a tank that needs to be manually pressurized, this is generally a job for professionals and their tools.

Yes. Boilers need water to run without overheating, also known as dry firing. If you run it without a sufficient volume of water, either because of a burst pipe or a leak, you run the risk of damaging your machine or jeopardizing the safety of your home as a whole. When in doubt, shut off your boiler and repair any plumbing issues before turning it back on. Alternatively, consider installing a low-water cutoff (LWCO) before any issues arise. This gadget will protect your boiler by monitoring water levels and automatically shutting it off if it gets too low.

While you’ll pay more upfront for a brand-new HVAC unit, you can save money in the long run. Here’s how to save on your new HVAC system:

  • When purchasing a high-efficiency system, your energy bills will be lower in the future.

  • You may be eligible for special offers from your local energy company.

  • Depending on the system, you may be eligible for HVAC rebates and tax credits.

  • Choose to replace your air conditioning unit and furnace simultaneously to save on labor and installation costs.

If you go to turn it counterclockwise and it won’t turn anymore, it’s open. Like most other valves, you should be able to turn a radiator valve counterclockwise (to the left) to open it and clockwise (right) to close it. To close a radiator valve, turn it clockwise until you meet some resistance and can’t turn anymore, but do so carefully to avoid breaking the valve.

A home radiator works by using radiation and convection to transfer heat throughout your home. Electric radiators use metal to conduct heat and warm the air, which then rises to warm the room. Steam and hot water radiators work with a boiler and piping system to pump thermal energy throughout the home. Hot water radiators use a boiler to heat the water before circulating it to the radiator, while steam heating radiator systems convert the heated water to steam before circulating it out. When the water or steam cools, it travels back to the boiler to be heated again.
