"Great experience from start to finish. My wife and I needed to have 2 ceiling fans and light kits installed. The work was scheduled quickly and TFC Electrical Services was even able to do the job earlier than expected. Tom and Ralph arrived as scheduled, on time and we were given a fair price quote. They had to install electrical wiring and box in our bedroom ceiling prior to installing the fan and light. They took the time to protect our furniture and floors by covering everything with protective tarps. Additionally, the installed a fan and light kit in an adjacent staircase. The concern and respect that they showed for our home was admirable and appreciated. The installations were neat, clean and expertly completed. They completed all the work in about 3 hours. TFC Electrical Services should be a model for “ALL” other electrical contractors. Any future electrical work in my home will be offered to this company. Thank you Theresa, Tom and Ralph."

"Came to my house the same day and completed the job. Mike the electrician was a nice guy and did a good job. $200 the first hour and $100 each additional hour. Changed existing ceiling fan, switches and outlets. I already had the parts, took 3+ hours, cost almost $500 with tax. Not sure if this is standard. I called them after another electrician who was supposed to come that day canceled."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

For a smooth electrical project in Commack, start by applying for permits early and scheduling inspections with extra lead time. Plan major upgrades for spring or fall to avoid weather-related delays. Coordinate with your utility provider for any service changes, and order specialty materials in advance. Working with local professionals familiar with Commack’s housing stock and climate helps prevent unnecessary setbacks.

Helpful?

In Commack, hidden costs during electrical projects often include permit and inspection fees required for most upgrades. Older homes, common in the area, may need panel or wiring replacements to meet updated codes. Unforeseen issues like outdated aluminum wiring, trenching for new underground lines, or addressing moisture damage in basements can also arise. Temporary power setups and utility connection adjustments are additional expenses homeowners should anticipate.

Helpful?

In Commack, homeowners are prioritizing smart home automation, including programmable lighting and integrated USB outlets. Energy-efficient upgrades like LED lighting and solar-ready wiring are in demand, especially in older homes. Luxury touches such as under-cabinet kitchen lighting and automated pool controls are trending, along with whole-house surge protection and backup generators to address the area’s storm-prone coastal climate.

Helpful?

In Commack, overloading outlets with space heaters during cold snaps, running extension cords through damp basements, and skipping routine GFCI outlet tests can all reduce the longevity of electrical work. The area’s coastal humidity can accelerate corrosion on outdoor fixtures. Allowing shrubs to grow around exterior panels or delaying upgrades in homes built before the 1970s also shortens the lifespan of electrical systems.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Commack often make mistakes like attempting DIY panel upgrades, underestimating the number of circuits needed for modern appliances, and neglecting whole-house surge protection—especially important due to Long Island’s frequent storms. Installing standard outlets where GFCI is required or hiring contractors unfamiliar with local soil and moisture conditions can also lead to safety and compliance issues.
