Customers say: Quality work

"I am moving and needed a paint refresh before selling my home. Tom called me personally to speak with me about my needs and was at my house 2 days later for an estimate. He was exceptionally priced and worked with me for what I needed. He truly provided the service that he felt truly was needed for the home and not just to make extra money. Very professional and overall a nice person. Paint came out beautiful. Highly recommend."

"They painted everything the same color. They painted the molding, doors, fixed some rot under the window, and painted the closets. They did a very nice job and I am very happy. The owner is a pleasure. The crew was very nice. They were prompt and did what they said they were going to do. They were able to finish the job within three days. I am very happy."

"Juan and his team do impeccable work. I never thought I would be able to strip and repaint my original 1940’s kitchen cabinets ….they had about 10 layers of paint to be removed. Juan not only got it done but my cabinets are now smooth and look brand new. He is a miracle worker! Always polite and accommodating, he worked around our work schedules and was always on time. I would not hesitate to hire him again. Juan and universe painting are the absolute best! Thank you."

Painting questions, answered by experts

There’s no single paint that’s the most waterproof. Instead, there are several types of waterproof and water-resistant paints that suit different purposes. Epoxy paint, for instance, is commonly used to provide a waterproof coating to floors and decks. Masonry paint is an excellent choice for exterior walls. Meanwhile, there are waterproof acrylic paints that can be used for interior and exterior walls. It’s more about choosing the best type for what you’re painting instead of the most waterproof paint overall.

The process of painting or staining a fence typically takes between one and five days. The total duration depends on factors like the size of the fence, weather conditions, and necessary drying times. A significant portion of this time is for drying, as stain won't properly absorb into wet wood. You should wait 24 hours to stain a fence after washing it and allow 12 to 24 hours of drying time between each coat. The active work time is generally about one hour for every 10 to 20 linear feet of fencing.

You should inspect the area regularly for rust, clean it with a wire brush, repaint it every few years, and apply a protective sealant to prevent corrosion.

Your tool of choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Many DIYers prefer applying stain with a lint-free rag, but others stick with a paint brush or a roller. Wipe the stain and work it into the wood, working with and against the grain. If you’re applying multiple coats, allow the stain to dry for around four hours between coats.

The general consensus is that two coats of stain are required and since the cedar is siding, a third coat of sealant is always a good idea. This helps protect the wood and stain, so you won’t need to resand and restain for at least a decade. Each stain after the first will darken the wood, so be aware of that when choosing a colored stain.
