"Ari and his brother were clearly skilled at doing tile work. They were very exact and gave good attention to detail. They were careful to approach the job so that I would be satisfied with the decisions to be made and the outcome. They are reliable, hard workers, and very pleasant."

"Chris Hubbell did a great job refinishing my deck. The work was exemplary at a fair price. Chris kept us informed of delays due to weather and finished the work in a timely manner."

"The Innovation contracting team did an excellent job on our downstairs bathroom. They do quality work, clean up after themselves, and are a pleasure to work with. Overall, I would hire them again and plan to do so for our next home improvement project."

"Lynn has helped me with multiple project. Installing railing, installing a hot water tank after trying to keep an old one running, painting, and more. He’s constantly busy with work but always answers the phone, explains things in depth in a way that homeowners can understand issues occurring, is extremely fair with the cost of his craft, and has experience in just about all areas one can suggest. If you need help with a home project, I’d highly recommend reaching out to All Phase."

Small jobs welcome

"We were very pleased with Siberian Home Improvements/Thomas. We hired Thomas to install an interior door in our basement. This included the door framing as well. We explained the issue we were attempting to fix and Thomas provided great feedback with a couple of different options he thought would work and estimates for the options. Once we agreed to the terms, he arrived up on time and performed the work within the estimated schedule and budget - and the quality of the work is great. Overall, we're extremely pleased and plan to hire Thomas again for other projects/improvements around our house."

Backsplash Installation questions, answered by experts

While you shouldn’t use thinset mortar on its own as a floor leveler, it can work alongside other products to help level floors. For instance, you could start with a self-leveling compound, let that dry, then apply backer board with thinset mortar to help fully even out the floors ahead of laying tile.

In some cases, granite tiles can be installed over existing flooring if the surface is level, stable, and free of moisture issues. However, removing old flooring is often recommended to ensure a secure and long-lasting installation, as well as to avoid height differences at thresholds. Consult with your flooring pro to determine the best approach based on your specific situation.

Yes, tiling a bathroom is a great way to boost your home's value, especially if you are replacing old or dated flooring. Adding a new tile floor can deliver a return on investment (ROI) of around 56.4%, with some projects offering up to 100% ROI. Buyers appreciate new tile because it provides a modern look and is known for being durable, water-resistant, low-maintenance, and easy to clean. For the best results and highest return, consider hiring a professional, as tiling mistakes can be very noticeable and detract from the value.

Glazed ceramic tiles don’t need to be sealed because the glazing already offers some protection against moisture. Unglazed ceramic tiles need to be sealed to keep the porous tile safe from moisture and staining. However, both types of tile can benefit from sealing. Sealant can make the tiles easier to keep clean and offer more resistance to water, spills, and stains.

The number of boxes of tile you need depends entirely on the amount of tile in each box or case. Different manufacturers package their tiles differently, and boxes contain different amounts of tile depending on the size, shape, and material. Often, the amount of area that a case will cover is listed in the product description. To calculate the number of boxes you need, take the total square feet of the space and divide it by the number of square feet the box will cover.
