Painted walls with a semi-gloss or high-gloss finish are particularly difficult for adding tiles. Tile shouldn’t be set tight against the tub. Bathtubs can expand when filled, and they can shift slightly with the weight of occupants. Porcelain tiles are slightly more durable than ceramic. Both options come in a wide variety of styles, so you can achieve the perfect look for your bathroom.

Tile flooring will last anywhere from 10 to 20 years and even up to 30 years or more with proper care and maintenance. 

You can help your tile floor achieve a longer lifespan by maintaining it properly. This includes cleaning it regularly (including cleaning the tile floor grout), keeping the floor dry, and not setting super heavy items on it to keep it from cracking. You'll also want to regrout your tile floor every 10 years. Using a grout sealer will help your floor last longer.

You can lay tile directly on a plywood countertop, but if it’s a high-traffic surface in a kitchen, it’s better to add a moisture-resistant base. Plywood is susceptible to moisture, so if dampness seeps through from the surface around the sink or where you prep food, it can cause the plywood to warp, leading to grout damage, cracked tiles, or mold growth under the surface.
