"Smooth.. 4 team painters arrived at 6:40am. Prepared the exterior of 2800 two story house. Repaired the upper deck floor. Repaired the stucco. Sanded the side door exterior trim where pups chewed and painted. Touch ups and clean up done by 3 pm. Peter checked it out. We agreed all was acceptable. Done. Reasonable price to boot."

"I had one house entirely painted on the exterior and another house he just did the trim. Both turned out great. And it's been almost a year and the paint hasn't faded so you know he uses great paint. The house looked great and Victor made sure it was cleaned up and there was no trash left anywhere. I am a bit if a neat freak. He works efficiently and is very responsive to any concerns I had. The scheduling took a few weeks but it was understandable as it was the hottest time of the year, they are worth the wait, they do a great job."

"Miguel was always on time, friendly, and helpful with color suggestions. He and his crew were able to finish our house before we moved in, with fairly short notice. His work improved the appearance of our house immensely. One small criticism is that small amounts of splattered paint were left behind on windows, toilets, and other places."

"Victor confirmed the date, arrived on time and total work took less time. He was very neat taping and paper to protect areas not painted. He painted a garage door and front security screen door. Patched plaster 6 small spots that I will paint myself. He did terrific job of painting ceiling water stain spots that we previously used Klitz that did not do very good job. I would highly recommend and use him for any interior painting.

"It was an Angie's List Big Deal that we purchased. We were not impressed with them. When they initially came they did some of the work such as installing the childproof latches on the lower cabinets. They installed some so that we press down from the top and others from the side. They drilled some holes in the cabinet and they had to come back to repair. They had to make 2, 3 or 4 trips trying to match the stain on the cabinets which never did get fully matched. Bottom line is that we were so tired of each other that we just said to let it lie where it is. They were very good about fixing the cabinet that had loosened and was hanging. They got that mounted stablely. The caulking was a little messy and not evenly beaded. We did everything scheduling wise over email and they weren't here so I called them and they were on a totally different job. They totally forgot that they had committed to being here. They did come later that same day. The treading they put on the two dog ramps they built has now fallen off."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

Applying a sealer or topcoat after staining wood is highly recommended, though not always strictly required. A sealer protects the wood from moisture, UV rays, and weather-related issues, which is especially important for outdoor surfaces like decks and fences. It also enhances the stain's durability, prevents fading over time, and gives the wood a cleaner, more professional-looking finish. For some indoor applications, a sealer may not be necessary, depending on the type of stain used and the level of protection needed. It's always best to check the stain manufacturer's recommendations and consider the wood's intended use and exposure when deciding whether to apply a sealer.

It’s necessary for paint to completely dry before exposure to rain, and that drying time varies by the type of paint used. Oil-based paint takes 6 to 8 hours to dry on average, meaning that’s the minimum time needed between the last brush stroke and the first raindrop. Latex paint dries faster at around 1 hour, and acrylic paint is even quicker, usually drying in about 30 minutes. If rain is in the forecast, check the paint manufacturer's details before laying on a new coat.

Opt for an interior wood stain that is rated for your type of wood. Consider your personal style preferences as well as the overall use of the room when choosing a color. Remember, the color you see at the store may look different on your actual floors once applied. This is why if you have the chance, it’s helpful to test a few options on a scrap piece of wood in the room first. Once you narrow it down, you can test a small patch on an inconspicuous area in the room to see it on the actual floors.

Whether you can paint over your existing paint depends on what’s on there. Most of the time, you’ll want to sand down or scrape off the paint that’s currently coating your surface. Epoxy paint, for example, won’t let new paint stick to the surface. Latex paint is more forgiving and will accept a new coat, but a primer is recommended if you’re switching colors.
