"I had cottonwood roots that were causing damage to my home’s foundation. And found one root sprouting a new tree. I called Cesar. He recommended the entire stump be removed and sent men that started on it right away. He and his men removed the stump that must of weighed 1200 lbs, and many huge roots going to my home. I Highly recommend this company. Professional, knowledgeable, and hardworking working from beginning to end."

"We had a very large 3 trunk tree that was endangering the house and seemed unhealthy. Wanted it cut but not all the way to the ground.Erics team of workers did a great job, gave us just what we wanted. Its now about 8ft tall enough th hang my bird feeders and plants from. No longer have to worry about damage to the house. Will have this team out again for future work. Everything cleaned up and removed. Very pleased."

"Mr. Montoya met me at my house, the project site to give me a quote on the day and time he said he would. We talked about which trees needed to be cut down and trimmed up. Leroy gave me a quote for all, we agreed to move forward with the project with a day and time of arrival. Mr. Montoya arrived at said time, did the work agreed upon, cleaned up as he went about, left with the downed trees and limbs. I couldn’t have been happier with the project. I am recommending Montoya Tree Service, Leroy Montoya. Very Professional."

"These folks (2 men and 1 woman) took care of the tree limbs hanging over our house quickly and efficiently. Plus, they are nice people! Doing business with them was easy. They arrived a bit early and cleaned everything up when they were done. We will most definitely call on them again if we need more work done."

Tree Service questions, answered by experts

Transporting a fully-grown tree requires heavy equipment, typically specialized for the task. A tree spade is a truck-mounted tool that removes the tree from the ground in one location, transports it, and places it in a new hole in a new location. A combination of mechanized shovels and lifts is necessary to move very large trees, and the exact tools often depend on location and the surrounding area.

Dutch elm disease can’t harm humans. In fact, according to Cal Fire, bark beetles aren’t even typically dangerous to trees unless that tree is already weakened. The problem comes when Dutch elm disease kills a tree. That tree is more at risk of falling and catching fire, which can pose a serious threat.

Coverage varies quite a bit by policy, but most homeowners' insurance policies will cover $500 to $1,000 of the cost of removing a tree. Additionally, if your tree causes damage to your property, like your house, many policies will cover some or all of the costs to repair the damage, depending on why the tree fell.

Pruning trees during the summer can be a bad idea because the new growth will take place during the hottest months of the year, which can stress your tree out. Similarly, pruning during the early fall can be a bad idea, too, because you’d be stimulating new growth when most trees are aiming to go dormant.

Pruning recommendations will vary by the type of tree, but generally, waiting until winter to prune your trees is a good idea.

As a general rule, the protected area should be about 1½ times as wide as the canopy of the tree’s leaves. This digging measurement can vary by tree species and the age of the tree. Of course, that can be a lot of fencing for larger trees, which is why our first step is about making difficult decisions on which trees to save.
