"They charged more than I was quoted for 2 hours of work. It went a few minutes over 2 hours because of some communication problems between the electrician and the person doing the work (electrician recovering from surgery so he was giving instructions to an assistant). I had to explain that the assistant hadn?t hung the light properly because the wire was shorter than the chain length, which I had cut to the exact length I wanted. The assistant hadn?t hung to redo the work, which also took extra time. They then installed the wrong fixture in my closet. Instead of replacing the pull chain light with the new pull chain light they replaced it with the wall switch light, which was obviously meant for the other closet. So they spent a good half hour installing the wrong light. The work was done right in the end (I hope), but I felt cheated because I had overpaid for work by an electrician who didn?t even do the work himself, and it was done sloppily and at a higher rate than I was quoted."

Small jobs welcome

"I hired Chris from Sage Creek Electric to install a 220 line for my electric dryer. He was efficient, tidy, and quoted me a fair price in comparison to other companies I had received quotes from. The line was neatly installed way faster than expected, and fully functional. Plus he is a really nice guy! He was very professional and I’ve since recommended him to friends seeking an electrician."

"Construction R us did a total rehaul of the electrical on our house and they did a stellar job. I found them to be communicative and honest. It's sometimes hard to find pros who do work and who you can trust to give you an honest assessment but this company definitely fits that bill. They also did a great job working around our schedule. Additionally they patched the dry wall after they were done and they did such a good job texture and colour matching we didn't even need to paint."

Chandelier Installation questions, answered by experts

There are four main types of lighting used in homes: ambient, task, accent, and decorative. Within these categories, there are a number of fixtures to choose from including ceiling-mounted lights, floor lamps, under-cabinet lights, track lighting, and more.

Choosing the fixture that’s right for you depends on your home design and the area you’re looking to illuminate.

The average cost to install outdoor or landscape lighting is around $4,000, with most projects ranging from $2,000 to $6,000. The total cost can vary widely depending on several factors, including the number of fixtures, design complexity, and the type and quality of the lights used, such as wall sconces, pathway lights, or lamp posts. Other factors that influence the price are the square footage of the area being lit, the amount of electrical work needed, any required excavation or trenching, and local permitting costs. For specific types, you might pay around $100 for pathway or string lighting and up to $700 for lamp post lighting.

The most common size of can light ranges from four to seven inches. The size that’s needed for your home depends on the area you’re looking to illuminate, the height of your ceiling, and the size of your wall.

When hanging a chandelier, the distance from the ceiling depends on the room and height. For standard 8-9 foot ceilings, chandeliers in living areas or bedrooms should hang 7 feet from the floor. In dining rooms, the chandelier should be placed 30-34 inches above the table.

For higher or vaulted ceilings, adjust accordingly, ensuring the chandelier remains balanced and visually appealing. Aim for chandeliers in entryways to be 7 feet from the floor or adjust for high ceilings to make a grand statement. Always consider the room's function and the desired lighting effect to achieve the perfect placement.

Replacing a pool light costs about $625 per light. If you only need to replace the light bulb, plan on paying about $20 to $100 per light. The largest cost factors include the type of pool light, the number of pool lights needed, and the labor costs in your location. But additional cost factors include work required on existing wiring, other repairs, and the continual maintenance needed to keep your pool light in good working condition after installation.
