"Bill Anderson was fantastic. I clogged our pipes by putting too much down the disposal. After my husband took apart all the visible pipes beneath the sink and figuring out the clog was much deeper than he could get to, I called Route 66 needing my pipes snaked immediately. Bill was able to come the same day and he was early, which is so unheard of nowadays. He snaked the pipes and had me up and running within a few hours. He was extremely helpful and professional and I would go back to him for future services in a heartbeat. The price was extremely reasonable and he didn't try to "up sell" me anything I didn't need. Albuquerque needs more service techs like Bill Anderson! Thank you, Route 66!!"

"Steve and Ray came to our house the next day after we contacted them to see what would be necessary to locate the leak. We told them we had already contacted two other companies to come out and they could not find our leak. Steve told us they would not stop until they located the leak. It was a quoted charge and although they had to come back three different times for several hours they did not increase the charge! Steve told us this was one of the most difficult leaks to locate he had experienced. They did locate the leak and it is now repaired. This is one of the best and most professional companies we have ever worked with. Thank you Steve and Ray!!!"

"This involved a crane to haul a five ton and a three ton combo unit onto our roof, reconfigure the exhaust and intake ducts to match our system and install new electrical lines and new thermostats. The job took two days as promised and it went as smooth as silk. I will hire them again for anything to do with HVAC or plumbing."

"Mike and Dillon worked for 8.5 hours straight to get the job done. They did not leave until they had addressed all of my electrical needs. Installing recessed lights in a remodel on the bottom floor of a two-story house is no easy task when there is no attic space. Another great thing about 7 Star was his suggestion that I buy the materials ahead of time so I saved quite a bit not having to pay any markup on materials. We are very happy with the work they did and would highly recommend their services."

Install Garbage Disposal questions, answered by experts

On average, it takes one to four hours for a professional to install a garbage disposal. This includes removing the old unit, taking necessary measurements for positioning, removing and fitting new pipes, and installing the brand-new disposal system. If there are unforeseen issues, such as accessibility concerns, the process takes longer.

On average, a garbage disposal can last anywhere from 7 to 12 years, with many models functioning well for about 10 years. With heavy usage, a motor may last a minimum of five years, while grinding plates will wear down over time. It's generally a good idea to consider a replacement if your unit is approaching the 10-year mark. Other signs that it's time for a new disposal include frequent leaks, persistent clogs, lingering odors, lack of power, or unusual noises. If your unit is not that old, it's worth investigating if a less expensive part, like a rubber seal or a loose hose, is causing the issue.

Soil is just one of the items you shouldn't put down a garbage disposal. Garbage disposals are only meant for soft, non-fibrous foods. Large amounts of topsoil, dirt, or rocks will damage the blades of your garbage disposal or clog the pipes. If a small amount of dirt goes down the drain as you repot a plant, you shouldn't have to worry, but never dump a whole pot of soil in the sink for fast disposal.

These appliances do unscrew, but you need to disconnect everything properly when you replace your garbage disposal. Make sure you shut the power off to the area first and check that it’s off with a voltage detector. Disconnect the main drain line and P-trap, and then disconnect the dishwasher drain line if you have one connected. You can then unscrew your garbage disposal using a disposal wrench. Just make sure you disconnect the electrical lines before removing your appliance.

When a dishwasher discharges its wastewater, it uses a pump to quickly move a lot of water. If anything in the drain line or the garbage disposal impedes the high volume of water, it will back up into the sink through the drain or the garbage disposal. Following regular dishwasher maintenance tips like clearing clogs, keeping them cleared, and occasionally running the disposal will eliminate the problem.
