"I am very pleased with the service and equipment. Patrick was prompt, did the work quickly and cleaned up afterward. His price was very reasonable and he has called to check on the system and make sure I am satisfied. I know he will be there right away if I have any problems. I had no experience with choosing a system for an older house in Santa Fe. There is no ductwork. It was heated with a wood stove. The mini split system has given me three zones in the house where I can control the heat or cooling separately. This is perfect for me because I don't have to heat or cool areas that I am not using."

"I called Roadrunner and they sent a technician out the same day. He identified the problem and gave me an estimate for the regulator repair and having a new water shutoff valve installed. I felt the cost of the regulator was high and he suggested that I could purchase the part myslef and only pay for installation charges. The part would not receive Roadrunners guarantee, however. I decided to locate and buy the needed parts and called Roadrunner for guidance. They were very helpful in guiding me to the correct parts. I called once I purchased the parts and they came out and installed them the next day. The technician was very professional and friendly. He completed the job in about 1.5 hours and cleaned up thoroughly afterwards. A month later, and everything is performing normally."

"Very good, fair price. Got here when they said they would, and they finished the job promptly as well. They were very professional and friendly, explaining the system and the process of installation fully, and they cleaned up completely after each step. Would definitely recommend Santa Fe Heating and Cooling Services."

"Tru Air provided a reasonable quote and Chris did a very knowledgeable presentation. The job was completed on the assigned day and I was kept informed right up until install. The install on the new heat pump went flawlessly. Chris was on site and made sure I was completely satisfied. He stopped by the next day to insure everything was working correctly and that I was satisfied. Job well done. Tom Hatch Rio Rancho"

"Title: Exceptional, trustworthy plumbing — highly recommended Galactic Mechanical & Plumbing exceeded every expectation. After a frustrating runaround with other companies, Jordan drove up from Albuquerque to Santa Fe, waived the trip charge, and quickly diagnosed that I only needed a faucet fixture (not a full sink). He went to Home Depot, installed the new fixture, fixed a few other small issues, and left everything working — all billed fairly for one hour of labor. Jordan was professional, efficient, and honest; Megan in the office was courteous and helpful. As a longtime local with two homes, I’m already planning to use Galactic as my go-to plumber. Highly recommend them for reliable, respectful, and skilled service. Thank you, Jordan."

"Pepe is wonderful! He's friendly, fair, honest, and reliable. Performs excellent quality work for a reasonable price, and provides free estimates and diagnostics! That alone will save you $375 - what most other plumbing companies around Santa Fe charge. He replaced my old, broken combi boiler in a timely, efficient manner, and was a pleasure to work with. He'll definitely be my go-to for all plumbing and HVAC repairs in the future."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

You should plan to change your AC unit's filter every one to three months, depending on the manufacturer's recommendations. You should also clean the coils at least once per year, but if you have pets or someone in your household has allergies, you might need to clean them more often. Fortunately, many pros will clean the coils and change the filter for you during an inspection, which you should schedule once or twice per year.

AC drip pans last five to 20 years, depending on the material. Plastic AC drip pans last five to 10 years, while metal pans can last over 10 years. Plastic AC drip pans are vulnerable to cracking in response to temperature changes. Metal drip pans are prone to rusting over time, which can also lead to leaks.

The difference between a home surge protector and an HVAC surge protector is that an HVAC surge protector is designed to protect the components inside your HVAC unit while a home surge protector is installed near appliances and meant to protect your entire home. There are three tiers of whole-house surge protectors, and they are more expensive to install than HVAC surge protectors.

On average, an AC unit lasts between 10 and 20 years. However, the specific lifespan depends on the type of unit, how often it's used, the local climate, and the quality of maintenance. Central AC units typically last 12 to 17 years, while window units have a shorter lifespan of 8 to 10 years. Portable AC units last about 5 to 10 years, and ductless mini-split systems can last up to 20 years. To extend the life of your AC unit, it's important to perform regular maintenance, such as replacing filters, cleaning coils, and scheduling annual professional tune-ups.

It’s never a good idea to run your AC without a filter, even just for a night. The filter defends your HVAC system from the dust, dirt, debris, and other grime in your home. Without a filter, those contaminants are more likely to get inside your system and potentially damage it.
