How long it takes to install a fence depends on the size of the fence; the longer the fence, the longer the install will take. That said, you can typically install a bamboo fence over a weekend for a reasonably sized yard. A team of fencing contractors can likely get your bamboo fence assembled in half a day to a day.
Typically, a fence requires one to two coats of stain. The exact number can vary depending on the porosity of the wood. For specific guidance, it's best to check the manufacturer's instructions. After applying the first coat and letting it dry completely, you can assess the finish. If it appears patchy, uneven, or you want a more saturated color, a second coat is recommended. An extra coat can also help cover lap marks.
Silt fences are very effective when installed correctly and used in proper locations. However, there are places where they don’t work as well. This includes property with a concentrated water flow, where runoff could pool or cause a flooding hazard. You’ll also want to use caution when installing in areas susceptible to landslides. Your contractor will follow state guidelines and know when an alternate solution is more effective.
Ideally, when you replace a fence post, you should also replace the concrete footing. The concrete bonds to your new post, creating a secure base. If you install a new post into old concrete, it won’t be as sturdy.
That said, it is possible. Sometimes the post will lift right out of the concrete. If not, you can use a high-lift car jack to try and lift the pole out of the footing. Put the new post into the same hole and backfill it with fast-setting concrete. Keep in mind, this won’t work well for metal posts.
Fences made out of redwood, cedar, or pressure-treated pine are the most durable. These materials can last anywhere between 15 to 40 years so long as they are properly maintained. Make sure to clean your fence regularly and pressure wash once a year. After pressure washing, apply a sealant and/or fresh paint to keep it looking fresh.
