"D&N fencing did such a great job!! Noah and Daisy were so nice. We did some looking around before we decided on D&N fencing but what made us choose them was not only the lower price from their competitors that we got an estimate from. It was their kindness and they wasted no time getting our fence done just the way we asked."

"From the initial call to have someone give me an estimate to replace my fence, All State Fence seemed very professional and friendly. Their employees are very knowledgeable and quick to answer any questions I had. The crew that actually built the fence arrived when they said they would and worked to complete the job in a very timely manner. The fence is beautiful and well constructed, I would highly recommend All State Fence to anyone and will use them for all of my future fencing needs!"

"We decided to just change out the gates. I will hire them when my parents are ready to do the work. I was very impressed by Paul who did the estimate and explained a few things. Great communication and service with Premier Fence! Thank you"

"I called to find out what it would cost to replace my back fence.  They showed up a day later and provided a proposal.  The proposal included the cost of additional options listed at the bottom.  I liked this because I didn't get the sales upsell routine.  They provided the additional options and I had the opportunity to choose larger horizontal rails without the pressure.  They were able to schedule me within a couple of weeks.  They told me what week it would be and said I would get a call form them the day before they come out.  I told them I had to get a call prior, because I have dogs and I didn't want to keep them in the house all week while waiting for them.  I also wanted to supervise the installation.  I received a call when they arrived at my house and realized they couldn't tear down the fence with the dogs in the back yard.  I told them I was at work and they were supposed to let me know prior to showing up.  They had to wait for me to get home.  They tore down the old fence, dug the holes, and sunk the posts in approximately 2-3 hours and then they left.  They came back the next day to build the fence.  All in all, they did a good job.  I only had a couple of complaints which they did make good on, eventually.  They put one defective board up, which should've never been installed and they took a long time to pick up the old fence boards.  I made sure they did not receive payment until they totally completed the job.  I had to call them several times to get them to replace the bad board, but when they came out the guy said he wanted to replace a couple of other boards he felt were not good quality.  It took them even longer to take the old fence off.  I believe they have some internal communication problems, but they always provided good customer service over the phone.  I have received compliments on my fence, so I know they did a good job.  They provided the cheapest quote and it was worth it.  I just had to be persistent.

Fencing questions, answered by experts

How long a wood fence lasts depends on the type of wood and its style. The design of a shadow box fence makes it more durable than other fence types because the alternating pickets disperse the weight across the rails. As a result, you won’t have to worry as much about sagging or failing pickets. However, remember that the hollow design of a shadow box fence makes it more difficult to apply the sealer, which is crucial to extending its life.

A well-maintained pipe fence can last anywhere from 20 to 50 years, depending on factors like material, climate, and maintenance. Galvanized or coated pipes resist rust and corrosion better than other alternatives, so they tend to last longer, especially in humid or wet environments. Routine maintenance, such as inspecting for damage, removing rust, and applying protective coatings, helps extend the fence’s lifespan significantly.

When choosing wood for a fence, consider your budget and geographic region. The most popular and common types of wood are cedar, redwood, and pressure-treated pine. Cedar is a top choice due to its natural durability, resistance to rot and insects, and budget-friendly price. Redwood is another durable, tried-and-true option, though it is typically more expensive. Pressure-treated wood, such as pine, is also a widely used and popular alternative. These materials are readily available at most hardware stores, which makes future repairs and replacements easier. Their accessibility and long-lasting performance make them excellent choices for most fence installation projects.

It is almost always necessary to hire a land surveyor near you to ensure your fence sits on the right side of the property line. Mistaking the shape of your property can lead to fines and costly changes if you have to move or adjust the privacy fence—not to mention some surly looks from your neighbor. We recommend jumpstarting your fence planning in the spring to ensure there is plenty of time to map out your plan before construction season.

Yes, you can use a floor jack to remove fence posts. Attach a stem to the base of the fence post so you can position the floor jack underneath. The stem can be a scrap piece of wood attached with nails or a sturdy nail itself. Put the jack beneath the stem and push the lever to lift up on the fence post and remove it from the ground.
