Small jobs welcome

"We moved from Canada to the U.S. as a family, and at first it felt like a lot to take on. The process moved forward steadily, our things were handled carefully, and nothing went missing or got damaged. Everything arrived in Denver when expected. For a move of this size and distance, it stayed manageable and didn?t turn into the chaos we were worried about."

Emergency services offered

"EXCELLENT. They were professional, came in under estimated time (and therefore cost) and both movers went the extra mile in every respect. I absolutely want to emphasise the professionalism of the people doing the move. No matter what the companies intention, if there is no follow through by the people doing the work, it is all for nothing. The owner responded quickly to email and concerns as well as being honest and forthright in every respect. There were no hidden charges or costs and everything was known in advance of the move. Before the move the owner conducted an on-site inspection to be sure everything was taken into account in his estimate so there would be not hidden surprises. A very positive experience and I recommend them to anyone needing a moving service."

Moving questions, answered by experts

You should transfer utilities at least two weeks before your final move-out date. It is best to schedule the turning off of all utilities 24 hours after your move. Doing so will ensure a smooth transition without any gaps in service while you are still living in the home.

Most hardware stores or shipping centers have mirror boxes and moving supplies. You can find most of what you need online, but if you’re still having trouble, contact your movers or moving truck rental company. They may sell boxes and packing supplies, too.

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to how far you can move your house. Interstate moves will involve additional permits and regulations, with some states having different requirements than others. The most important factor relating to the distance you can move a house is the route that has to be taken to get there. In areas with narrow, winding roads, hilly terrain, and low-clearance bridges, it can be very difficult and expensive to move a home long distances.

Start by removing any obstacles in the moving path, such as side tables, lamps, or other furniture. If your couch has legs, unscrew them. Measure the couch and the stairway to ensure you have enough room; if it seems unlikely, examine the shape and size of the couch and decide whether it might fit better up the stairway and through doorways on its side, held diagonally, or moved in an upright position.

Consider putting the sofa on a dolly to go up the stairs. It should be able to fit upright on a standard dolly with wheels. You’ll still need to lift the dolly—with the couch on it—up the stairs, but it will reduce the physical strain. The person holding the dolly should pull the couch up, while the helper should be on the other side, keeping the couch secure and steady.

If you don’t have a dolly, the person in front should lift the couch slightly higher than the person in the back to create more stability. The person in the back should also be the stronger mover, as most of the weight will be distributed there.

Generally, you should avoid using your car as a storage space if you’re using a shipping company.Your items could get lost or damaged during transport, and most shipping companies won’t cover the cost of damage. Contact the shipping company and ask about their policy ahead of time. Some companies may not allow you to leave anything but necessary paperwork in the car.
