"Sean was our plumber and he was timely and very professional. He explained everything he did and showed me so I was familiar with the work done. We had to install a second water meter for our sprinkler system and it was handled beautifully. I highly recommend My Guy Plumbing. Ask for Sean!!!"

"I was referred to AWWS after I suspected that my septic system had failed. They quickly came out to assess my condition and were very easy to communicate with. Upon arrival they walked me through their inspection process explaining what they were looking for. Ultimately they were able to conclude that it was just a leak in my irrigation system and not related to the septic system. Most importantly they were able to explain and educate me on how to monitor my septic system. AWWS left my house not only identifying the issue but enabling me to better assess the state of the system. I was in a prime position to be taken advantage of but there outstanding professionalism was truly remarkable. Thank you AWWS you will be my first call and a unquestionable referral."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

You can use a stud finder or wall scanner to detect plumbing behind a wall. A stud finder can help detect metal plumbing pipes. Or, you can use a wall scanner, a special tool that many pros use to detect pipes when water is running. Make sure a faucet is on nearby to get the water flowing before you fire up the wall scanner.

Depending on the layout of your bathroom, you may be able to replace a shower valve without removing the tile. The existing hole needs to be large enough to remove your old valve and fit your new valve. If the hole is too small, you’ll need to cut into the wall and remove some of the tile.

A chipped bathtub could leak over time if you don’t take care of the issue. A tiny chip isn’t a big deal but may eventually grow into a larger crack. As the months go by, the tub’s barrier against moisture becomes weakened, making it prone to leaking. Large chips can also cause the tub to rust and even crack in half.

You generally cannot replace a 10-inch rough-in toilet with a 12-inch model without making significant plumbing updates. A 12-inch rough-in toilet will not fit a 10-inch rough-in space because the floor drain is in the wrong position. To accommodate the larger toilet, you would need to move the drainpipe, which could cost between $0.75 and $30 per linear foot, plus labor. In most cases, it is more cost-effective and simpler to purchase a new 10-inch rough-in toilet. However, it is possible to install a 10-inch rough-in toilet in a 12-inch space by using a longer connector.

There are a couple of similar alternatives you may consider for a sewage ejector pump, including a grinder pump or a submersible sump pump. Submersible sump pumps protect your home from flooding from outside water, though, rather than handling wastewater from inside. A grinder pump macerates, or shreds, solid waste before pumping it onward to the sewer line.
