"Despite there being no surprises at the work site, the final bill was 40% higher than quoted ($5,710 vs $4070). Reason given: they had underestimated the job. They also pointed out the final bill included "optional charges" that had been in the small print. But were not really optional and, in fact, I was never asked if I wanted or not. I asked for a discount and was given a token $250 off. I will also add they said something like "This is why we have clients sign the quote is only an estimate," implying they have gotten this complaint in the past. As far as I can tell, their work was good and they seem like good people, but be aware if you go with them you can expect the bill to be significantly higher than the quote."

As John and I were catching up before the install of our transfer switch and generator hook up, he recalled when we first met almost 20 years ago. From that time forward, he and his teams have completed work for my family that spanned from outlet installation and replacement, wiring our full new build construction home, inclusive of aiding with the installation of the power line from the street (which was 700 feet away from the house), outside patio electrical work for an elaborate tiered landscape, generator hook up requirements, among other things. Just as our electrical needs grew over time, and John and 4th Generation Electric have as well, the same level of attention to detail, focus on customer satisfaction, and not only the desire to strive for perfection but the expectation to do so, has been the standard that he knows not only his customers expect but that he expects for himself and his teams. Despite multiple attempts to resolve this issue, I have yet to receive the promised refund for work that was never completed. As a cancer survivor undergoing surveillance scans, the refund would greatly assist in covering my medical expenses. The lack of response and follow-through has added unnecessary stress during an already difficult time. In addition to this, I had to hire a lawyer to recover my down payment, which cost me additional money. Moreover, he did not offer to compensate me for the extra expenses, including hiring an electrician to install a wire for the heat pump he could not install. Despite repeated attempts to have the deposit returned, I finally received it after engaging legal assistance. I hope this review will encourage McGinley & Sons to address this matter promptly and fairly."
