"From our initial inquiry through the project completion everything was top-notch! We received clearly written information about the estimate, removal, and paving, as well as excellent explanations from on-site personnel. Photos, diagrams, and text laid out their plans. On site, staff took the time to explain exactly what they were doing and were meticulous about avoiding damage to some minor plantings that were close to the work, even though we told them not to worry. Online payment through links provided via email was extremely easy. Great company, great folks, great work!"

"We are extremely happy with the job Chris and co. did in replacing our old concrete walkway with bricks. They worked neatly and efficiently and Chris helped us see our vision clearly. He’s a great guy, and has very fair pricing. We hope to use him on a project in the future. Deb D Bedford"

"Ultimately, the decision was made to retain more of a horticultural service in order to address removal of some invasive plants and blight issues with fruit trees in the yard. With that said, these folks were prompt in getting back to me right away, and I met with a gentleman named Steve. He was so friendly, helpful, thorough, knowledgeable and very professional. It is evident that they really care about what they do! Honestly, they would be my choice for maintenance services, so I will very likely reach out to them again in the future once the plant issues are resolved."

"Masonworks did a fantastic job building a patio on my back yard into a hill. They completed the work as scheduled, the workmanship was of the highest quality, and the aesthetics of the patio are breathtaking. We've had neighbors walk over just to compliment us on the patio. Masonworks may be more expensive than other contractors, but there work speaks for itself."

"We have had our fair share of bad contractors and handymen around our home, and decided to join Angie's List for that reason. We found John's Landscaping Service on here, and had them come out to give us a quote on our Fall Cleanup this year along with 2 other companies.  John's Landscaping Service came in well below the other quotes, and we took a chance on this after reading the good reviews as we thought the price was too good to be true! Turns out they did a great job, and price included 2 trips to come out and clean up the leaves and such. Very professional, stuck to their quote, and responded quickly. Again, great price and value as opposed to the other quotes. Go with these guys.

Customers say: Quality work

"I interviewed several landscaping and masonry companies to install a new paver walkway and demo my existing brick steps to install new granite steps.. I decided on S.L. Dionne Landscaping and I couldn't be happier. Shawn and Bob were both knowledgeable, professional and worked efficiently. Both possessed great attention to detail to the project at hand. At the end of each work day, the property was left clean and orderly with all tools put away for the night. The finished product was far beyond my expectations. Several people driving by my home have stopped to comment on the transformation of the front of my home All who stopped admired the the quality workmanship and said how beautiful the job came out. I would definitely hire SL Dionne again and will do so for my future projects. Thank You Shawn and Bob.. Lynne Allen Plaistow, New Hampshire"

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Yes, pea gravel is good for driveways as long as your driveway isn’t built on a hill or any type of slope where it can slide. It’ll settle on a flat surface and create a suitable driveway over time, though some spreading initially will take place. If you're wondering how to make a gravel driveway in a high-rainfall area, using pea gravel could help you to cut down on costs needed for extra drainage solutions.

Yes, you should lightly wet the sand with a hose before laying the pavers on top. This activates the bonding agents in the sand, ensuring that your pavers don’t shift around during the installation process. However, you should make sure that the sand is not soaked; overwatering can cause the sand and pavers to not set properly.

The ideal distance between stepping stones depends on your design preference. A general rule is to place them about 24 inches apart from center to center to match an average person's stride. Another common approach is to leave about 6 inches of space between the edges of each stone; this can be adjusted to fit the path's total length without cutting pavers. If you plan to plant between the stones, leave at least 6 to 8 inches of space to give the plants room to grow.

Yes, it is possible to pave over an existing driveway, but whether it's the right choice depends on several factors. If the underlying structure of your current driveway is still strong, concrete or asphalt resurfacing can be a cost-effective way to prolong its life. However, if your driveway has significant issues like potholes, deep cracks, or other inconsistencies, it is best to remove the old driveway and start from scratch. Key factors to consider include the current driveway's condition, the compatibility of the new material, the added thickness and height, and the necessary surface preparation.
