"Preferred Electric came right out to provide me with an estimate, which was lower than others and he seemed professional, so I hired him. He was able to perform the work within 2 weeks. He came and did the work himself. He installed the bath fan and kitchen curciuts as requestd. I then had him come back to install the smoke and CO2 Alarms in the house."

Customers say: True professional

"Dave was recommended to me by a long time friend and I am very thankful. I bought a house that was in need of many upgrades, repairs and additions to the electrical service. His work is phenomenal! He goes above and beyond, by making sure that everything is done correctly, to code and safely. There were many unforeseen issues once he started getting deep into the electrical work on my house and he continuously made me aware and what was needed to fix the issues. I was still living in Florida when the work was done, so all of the work was done "pre move-in" and he was totally trustworthy. I can't say enough about his professionalism, expertise his level of perfection to which he completed all issues in my house. Many thanks to him for making my house electrically safe and meeting all of my needs. I will never hire anyone else but Dave for any future electrical needs I may have. Thanks again Dave, great job!"

"I had American Electric complete the wiring for my 24x40 garage along with a 200-amp panel upgrade to my house, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. From start to finish, the communication was excellent, they were punctual, reliable, and the quality of work was outstanding. Everything was done professionally and exactly as discussed. I would absolutely refer them again and highly recommend them to anyone needing electrical work done."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

After electrical work in Concord, schedule a required inspection within 30 days to confirm code compliance. Update your home’s electrical map and keep records of any new equipment warranties. Before winter, test outdoor outlets and fixtures for weather resistance, and in spring, check for storm or ice damage. If you’ve installed a generator, test its operation regularly and notify your insurance provider about any significant electrical upgrades.

Helpful?

In Concord, annual inspections of basements and crawl spaces for moisture help prevent corrosion, especially in homes with stone or granite foundations. Test GFCI outlets monthly, focusing on damp areas, and check your electrical panel each year for rust or loose connections. Replace surge protectors every few years due to frequent summer thunderstorms. Before winter, install covers on outdoor outlets and test backup power sources to ensure storm readiness.

Helpful?

Electrical projects in Concord often interact with heating systems, well pumps, or sump pumps, especially in homes with private wells or oil heat. Upgrading for smart home features or adding heat pumps may require panel upgrades or new circuits. Homes with granite foundations or timber framing may need special grounding solutions, so assess your home’s structure and connected systems before starting any electrical work to avoid unexpected complications.

Helpful?

In Concord, warning signs include persistent flickering lights during storms, rust or corrosion on panels and junction boxes—especially after heavy snow or ice damming—and visible water stains near outlets or fixtures. Outdated electrical panels, lack of GFCI protection in basements, and aluminum wiring in older homes are serious concerns. Frequent circuit breaker trips or dimming lights during high-demand periods also indicate your electrical system may need a professional evaluation and possible upgrade.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Concord are prioritizing LED lighting upgrades, smart thermostats, and whole-home energy monitoring to manage utility usage. Backup generators and battery storage systems are increasingly popular for storm preparedness. Many are adding USB outlets, smart switches, and dedicated circuits for home offices or electric vehicle chargers. Classic fixtures that complement colonial and cape-style homes remain in demand, blending modern convenience with Concord’s traditional architectural charm.
