"Wow! These guys were great. I had 5 outfits and 7 arborists look at my job and once I talked to Aaron at Hurricane U knew these guys were the crew for me. I had an emergency 70 foot tall hackberry to remove that was in a very difficult location and they stepped up and kicked it. Love this crew. There are none better. Thank you!"

"We contacted Doerr Enterprises this last fall to trim our tree in our front yard that was looking a little sad. He was very prompt to get to the job, get it done and cleaned up! We have also hired him for the first snow we got so far this year and he cleaned our drive in no time! Would highly recommend his services!"

"The services performed went as smooth as expected. Mike was able to trim our biggest tree and remove an entire evergreen that had been exposed to bag worms. The work was quick and efficient and I would highly recommend him to anyone. We will definitely utilize his expertise in the future."

"From the time Joshua ( Great guy) came for the estimate, to the time they gave me to do the work, they were spot on for the appointed times. Jake ( The owner) and Marco were a pleasure to work with and their climber Eric was very good, and fast! Would hire them again in a heartbeat and highly recommend to anyone needing tree work done. "Very pleasant young gentlemen. They arrived and immediately set out to take down our huge 60+yr. old Pin Oak tree. The wood was then all hauled away, branches cleaned up, lawn raked, sidewalk and driveway swept. Have and would highly recommend the WOODCHUCKERS for your next tree removal project."

"I love these guys! They're a fairly new company, but have a lot of experience with tree removal and trimming due to past work experience with other companies . Two of the trees removed were very close to our house and they did a great job making sure the trees fell exactly where they wanted them to fall. Since we live on an acreage with a lot of old trees, I will call on them again for more tree removal. in the future."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Most experts recommend removing a tree that has sustained more than 25% loss in the limbs, trunk, or circumference of the bark. Doing an initial trimming of damaged and dangling branches, but then waiting a few days of monitoring to decide how much more you might need to cut can help you better assess the total damage to the tree. However, consulting a tree maintenance pro to make this determination the best course of action before removing a tree.

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.

Cutting down a tree next to power lines is never a DIY job, and it’s a good idea to contact your utility company first. In most cases, the utility company will need to take care of any tree problems within 10 to 15 feet of power lines. If you want to remove the tree for aesthetic reasons, hire a pro to do the job. Trying to cut trees near power lines yourself can create many safety hazards, and you could be liable if you inadvertently cause damage to electrical equipment.

It is possible to burn out a tree stump if it is dried out and in an area of your property with a large buffer. Drill holes in the stump and dig around the base so it burns more easily. Then, build a small campfire on top using kindling and firewood. You’ll need enough to keep the fire going for many hours to completely burn out the stump, especially if it’s large.

Monitor the fire closely to ensure it doesn’t spread, and have a hose on hand if it starts to get out of control. When the fire is out, break apart the burned stump and dig out what’s left of it.

If this sounds like a good option, learn more about how to burn a tree stump before attempting it, as it does come with risks.

There are two types of arborists: certified and consulting. A certified arborist is licensed and equipped to provide tree pruning, planting, fertilizing, monitoring, transplanting, treatment, and removal services. A consulting arborist specializes in tree appraisals, diagnosing problems and recommending treatments for illnesses. However, they will not provide these services themselves. Most consulting arborists are certified arborists who can refer you to a tree service that can administer the correct treatments.
