"I had been trying for months to get an electrician to fix a can light above the sink in the kitchen and no one would even return my calls. I called at least 12 people and nothing. I realize this was a small job but no one in Haywood county would talk to me. Finally went to Home Advisor and did a search and found a guy with great reviews but I didn't expect to hear from him either since he lived about 40 minutes away. He called me within an hour and we set up an appt for in two weeks. He showed up, had it fixed in no time. I asked him about replacing a old circular fluorescent light fixture in the kitchen. He went online to Lowes and found a great LED replacement fixture at Lowes. We live close to a Lowes and he got in his truck ran down to Lowes brought it back and installed and the light in the kitchen is now 200% brighter. Fantastic, I would not hesitate to recommend Bryan. Great job!!!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

No, because amps and volts measure very different things. However, you can use basic equations to find amps or volts by using data about one of the measurements to calculate the other.

Yes, most electric and automatic gates can be opened manually. They are equipped with a manual override or release mechanism that detaches the motor from the gate, allowing it to be moved by hand. This feature is essential during power outages or other emergencies.

To activate the manual override, you will typically need a specific key or tool. In some cases, you may also need a screwdriver to remove a cover to access the release mechanism. The use of a key is a common security measure to prevent unauthorized individuals from manually opening the gate.

Because every model is different, it is highly recommended to consult your gate's user manual to familiarize yourself with the specific procedure before you need to use it. Keep any necessary keys or tools in an accessible location. Be aware that automatic gates can be very heavy, so opening and closing them manually may be difficult.

In North America, electric gates are also subject to the UL 325 Standard for Safety, which includes provisions to allow emergency responders to access the property.

Yes, electricians must be licensed, certified, and in most cases, insured. Licensing requirements vary by state and local municipality, but most U.S. municipalities require electricians to hold an electrical contractor’s license. It's always a good practice to confirm requirements with your local municipality. Even if licensing is not required in your area, hiring a licensed and experienced electrician often leads to a better end result.

A license is a legal requirement to operate a business and is necessary for pulling project permits. Certifications, on the other hand, are typically voluntary and demonstrate a certain level of expertise. In some cases, a certified electrician may send an apprentice or journeyman to perform the work, but they must operate under a primary electrician who holds the proper license.

Before hiring, you should verify the electrician's license, insurance coverage, and any third-party certifications. You can use Angi’s contractor licensing search to confirm a pro's license status. Additionally, businesses with the “Angi Approved” badge on our platform meet strict criteria, including having the required state and local licenses, passing a background check, and maintaining a high average rating.

Most commonly, aesthetics and practicality influence a move. If your renovation or remodel involves the wall in question, you’ll obviously need to relocate. It all comes down to personal preference. You’ll need to hire a professional electrician for this task, so be sure to hire a licensed pro with plenty of experience with this type of electrical task.

A home electrical inspection usually takes one to two hours. Full home inspections fall on the longer side, while code compliance inspections that focus on a single repair or installation may only take a few minutes. Optional add-ons like infrared inspections can add time, but these aren’t usually included in your standard inspection.
