"Working with Kilowatt Electric was a positive experience from start to finish. We scheduled a site visit to receive an evaluation of the work needed along with an estimate. The owner, Samuel, arrived on-time and provided a reasonable estimate within 24 hours of his visit. We waited two months to schedule the work due to the holidays and travel. When we called to schedule the work, the office quickly located our estimate and was able to schedule the work within two weeks. On the day of the appointment, two employees showed up 15 minutes early and got right to work. They spent the next 5 hours quickly and professionally completing the work including an additional need that was not part of the original estimate. They left all work areas clean before leaving for the day. We would definitely hire Kilowatt again!"

"I have a lot of experience in electricity-related areas so I am quite demanding and critical. Each time I have called Buckingham, scheduling was prompt and the techs were knowledgeable, accommodating and thorough. They arrived on time and in the most recent case came back quickly to resolve an issue that was not clearly their responsibility. I really like dealing with these pros and will recommend them to my neighbors."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

You can twist the wires before using a wire nut, but it’s not necessary. Electricians often twist wires before using a wire nut, which can help secure the connection and enhance electrical contact between wires. You can decide whether or not to twist the wires beforehand, or consult a local electrician if you need  professional opinion.

Schedule regular inspections, clean fixtures, and replace worn-out components promptly.

Yes, an electrical fire can start even if nothing is plugged into an outlet. While a correctly functioning outlet poses no risk, a fire can be caused by faulty wiring, damaged outlet components, an overloaded circuit, or other electrical problems hidden behind the walls. If you suspect a fault, immediately turn off the circuit breaker and contact a professional electrician to diagnose and repair the issue.

Updating your old outlets, or adding grounding clamps to a metal box are two methods. Each home is different. Consult an electrician for advice on grounding a wire without doing extensive work to dig into the ground.

Smart light switches are designed to be compatible with most lights and traditional home wiring, but there are several key factors to check. First, verify your home's wiring, as some smart switches require a neutral wire to operate, which may not be present in older houses (often built before 1985). Always check the wiring requirements for the specific model you choose. Second, consider your light bulbs; while smart switches work with almost any light, using a dimming feature requires dimmable bulbs, such as dimmable LEDs. Finally, ensure you have the necessary network connection. Most smart switches need a Wi-Fi connection for remote control, but some older models might use other standards like ZigBee, which would require a compatible hub.
