"Statesville Masonry was great find! The owner is very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. I immediately felt comfortable with him and had the utmost confidence in the work he and his team would do and they did not disappoint! Our patio is beautiful. Statesville Masonry's price was very reasonable as well. Between that, their references from other jobs and their professionalism it was a no brainer. I would absolutely recommend them and use them again in the future for other jobs."
"I can't believe how smoothly this repair went! Everyone at Falcone--the schedulers who arranged our estimate visit and the repair work, the foundation experts who repaired the porch, the finance people who explained the estimate and our final bill--every single one of them was helpful, prompt, courteous, and great at their jobs. The county inspector who reviewed the porch repair even made a point of telling us what high quality work the Falcone people had done for us! I would definitely call them again! If you're interested in our specific details, this repair was crucial to maintaining our house's structural integrity; since the screened-in porch is attached to the house, if it went down the hill, so would the back wall of the house! The foundation had cracked away from the main house and the slab was cracked and sliding apart at different angles. The men from Falcone excavated, cleaned, and prepped the job site, including washing the bottom section of the slab to promote bonding when the new concrete was poured. Then they poured a porch perimeter slab wall under the slab to stabilize the foundation. In addition, they installed a backer rod and applied concrete sealant to re-connect the porch foundation to house and prevent additional damage."
"The Foundation Doctor did an excellent job. The work was completed on time, the communication was clear, and the quality of the repair exceeded expectations. I truly appreciate the professionalism and attention to detail"
"David provided excellent service. He is punctual and keeps his word and his pricing is beyond fair. We were really impressed with his attention to detail and the quality of his work. He has been doing this for 30+ years and it shows. We started with a small section and were so pleased that we expanded our project to triple the size. He was also very respectful of our property and cleaned up throughly every day. If you are looking for excellent concrete work we could not have a stronger recommendation."
"All work was done incredibly well. Patio looks great. All plantings have survived thus far. Kevin was very responsive to questions. Entire project was done punctually and correctly the first time."
"This is the second time I have hired a drainage contractor. The company before Sealtech buried about 50 concrete pavers in the trench while I was away at Lowes. Needless to say I did not call them back. Sealtech sent a three man crew out. They dug up the sod (Bermuda) and saved it to put back. Then they hand dug a trench about 200 feet. They cut out four feet of concrete very neatly, then installed a 4-inch schedule 40 PVC pipe (the thick stuff), not the corregated black junk. They captured one gutter and installed a drain basin where water would mass during heavy rain. The crew did not damage any utilities during the entire process After they filled in the trench and placed the sod back you could hardly tell anything was done. I can say I am highly satisfied. I cannot wait for the first heavy rain."
"Jerry Dunlap provided a printed quotation for the work within 30 minutes after measuring and assessing the work to be done. Mr. Dunlap made some excellent suggestions to improve the project. The price was comparable to other quotations, but was much more detailed about the scope of work. He and his crew arrived on time to perform the work. All concrete removal, grading, and formwork was complete in the first day. The concrete was placed the second day. To avoid damage to the existing driveway, all trucks remained on the street. Old concrete was removed with a Bobcat and fresh concrete was hauled in with a small self-powered machine. The quality of the work is excellent. Rebar ties to the old concrete, rebar reinforcement at the new curb, beautiful finish. The crew was respectful of the property and properly cleaned the area of food wrappers, etc. I highly recommend this company."
"We hired Drypro to install steel brackets to secure our foundation. Michael Silfer, Sean Martin and Mang Bik were prompt, professional and knowledgeable. We were impressed with their skill and efficiency. We highly recommend them if you have a foundation issue."
"The finished product is beautiful! He was very professional and knowledgeable on the type of tree that would be best for our yard. He was hard working and kept his workspace and surrounding areas very clean! (And his price was more than reasonable!) I highly recommend him, and will definitely hire him again for future projects."
"Jose and team are reliable, hardworking and followed through on all aspects of projects they did for us. They did front and back yard drainage, installed stone pavers and pebbles for walkway, completed some grading and landscaping and also did a seal of our crawlspace including installing a dehumidifier. Would definitely recommend them!"
No, you don’t need to soak the brick before cutting it by hand. In fact, cutting a wet brick can make it harder to see your score lines and may cause the chisel to slip. Soaking is sometimes used with power tools to reduce dust, but for hand-cutting, it’s best to work with dry bricks for better control and visibility.
Painted exterior brick does not usually need sealing. Brick is a porous material, so you don’t want to apply a sealant that could trap moisture inside the bricks and cause erosion and structural damage. The risk of moisture-induced damage after sealing is higher in colder climates where trapped moisture can expand if it freezes. On the other hand, it makes sense to seal really old brick or kitchen backsplashes, where moisture from cooking can weaken the brick.
Rock salt and ice melts contain sodium chloride, aka salt, and are corrosive to metal and concrete. If used frequently over time, it can cause corrosion, discoloration, chipping, and cracking to patios, walkways, and driveways. You can try a rock salt alternative or hire a professional snow removal company instead.
A mason lays brick or stone together, sometimes with mortar in between the bricks and stones, and sometimes without mortar, also called a dry-stack or surface bonding. Examples of work masons do include:
Brick, stone, or cement block houses and buildings
Modern brick homes have a brick facade over standard framing and sheathing, so the brick offers minimal added structural stability. A home with traditional brick construction is more durable than a stick-built home, as the double-layer brick walls and rebar resist higher lateral wind loads and support heavier loads up top, as well.
