"Christian was helpful, answering my questions and showing me where my generator could be placed and explained the installation process, His visit was not to repair a generator, but to get me a quote."

"Outstanding- John worked had to install the video doorbell, couldn’t get to work? Had the Ring Tech folks on the line w/him for 30 minutes! He checked lines, voltage etc. way beyond the call of duty! Ring determined the kit may be defective! He still installed everything to enable me to merely switch out the kit once it came! Very professional, efficient and kind! The system came on line by itself 4 hrs Later!?"

"Great follow through, good pricing. The generator required several trips and follow-up items because it required different inspections. They did a great job at following up on these steps and the generator works perfectly. Since that time we called them for some smaller electrical jobs. They are very detailed oriented, an example would be that I gave what I thought I wanted and they gave feedback based on their experience showing a better way to do it. I welcomed this and was happy they suggested it."

"I was extremely pleased with Viva Electric both times I used them. After encountering difficulties and a failed inspection with a mini-split AC connection using a different electrician, Jimmy and his team came in and provided a much better a much better and simpler solution. I used Viva again to install a transfer switch for a portable generator and was once again very pleased. Michelle in the office has been a pleasure to work with as well. I definitely recommend Viva Electric."

"Smart power source did a wonderful job installing my gas line. Jason was professional and very knowledgeable when speaking to him about my specific job. He made sure to explain how his crew would complete the job and what to expect. When his crew got to my house on the day of the install they were very polite and wasted no time getting to work. They where in and out with no wasted time. Fast and professional what more could you ask for. I would recommend him for every one."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Yes, installing a generator usually increases your property value because buyers are getting the added peace of mind knowing they’ll be able to maintain power through blackouts. In most cases, you should see close to a 100% return on investment (ROI). Keep in mind that home generators usually need a permanent foundation, and installing a concrete slab will likely raise your property taxes slightly.

In most cases, there are no tax credits available for home generators. However, that’s a general statement that applies to federal tax credits, so you might have access to state or local tax incentives. You can check the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE) for more information about your area. If you hire a reliable home generator installer, they should also know if there are any state or local perks you can use to reduce your installation costs, including tax breaks and rebates.

Yes. You can connect your home back-up battery to a generator with its designated charger. Be sure that the output of the generator matches the input requirements for the battery for best results.

Generators are safe to use as long as they are installed and operated correctly according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The most critical safety tips are to never use a portable or fuel-powered generator inside an enclosed space due to the risk of lethal carbon monoxide poisoning; always operate it outdoors where fumes can dissipate away from your home. Additionally, never attempt to connect a generator to your home’s electrical panel yourself—hire a professional to ensure the setup meets safety standards. Finally, avoid overloading the generator by not connecting more appliances than it is rated for, as this can damage your equipment or cause a fire.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.
