"I want to take a minute and note that Carleton B. is incredible. Truly one of if not the best interactions I have had with a technician in any field and he is the sole reason we purchased a one year plan today. We are very pleased with his quality of work, communication, and timeliness. He has provided a great experience for us and for that we are very thankful."

"Scott was on time and very professional. He examined the current installation of the toilets and provided me with options to address the problem and install new toilets. I enjoyed meeting him and appreciated his expert opinions. I am still getting estimates and will certainly keep this company at the top of my list. Scott is very easy to communicate with and will brighten your day with his smile."

"Mr Henry did an amazing job upgrading my electrical panel and installing additional electric outlets (I needed 3 lines put in under the house in the crawl space and my old panel was maxed out). To start with , his quote was very reasonable. Next, I was expecting to take weeks to schedule the job, to my delight he worked me into his schedule and finished the job within a few days of calling him!! Very professional. Great attention to detail. This guy knows his stuff! I will definitely hire him and his team again for future projects. (I hope to buy an EV someday and when I mentioned this, he knew exactly what would be needed to upgrade my garage. That’s the kind of knowledgeable electrician I want working for me.)"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Yes. You can connect your home back-up battery to a generator with its designated charger. Be sure that the output of the generator matches the input requirements for the battery for best results.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.

Generators are safe to use as long as they are installed and operated correctly according to the manufacturer's recommendations. The most critical safety tips are to never use a portable or fuel-powered generator inside an enclosed space due to the risk of lethal carbon monoxide poisoning; always operate it outdoors where fumes can dissipate away from your home. Additionally, never attempt to connect a generator to your home’s electrical panel yourself—hire a professional to ensure the setup meets safety standards. Finally, avoid overloading the generator by not connecting more appliances than it is rated for, as this can damage your equipment or cause a fire.

Homeowners can often access federal tax credits, such as the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), which covers a percentage of installation costs. Many states and utilities offer additional rebates, grants, or performance-based incentives. These programs can significantly lower your upfront investment. Check the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) or contact your local energy office for current offers.

A 10,000-watt generator can run a small to mid-sized central AC unit (typically up to 3 tons or 36,000 BTU) along with a few other appliances. However, larger AC units or additional loads will require a bigger generator. Consult a local generator installer to ensure you add the correct size generator to your home.
