"New to the area. Recently purchased a home. We wanted to know if our fireplaces were usable. Junior and his team at A Triad Chimney Sweep. Came out to clean and inspect our chimney. They explained what they were doing and looking for throughout the entire process. They gave an estimate before they left. Explaining in detail the necessary steps. To make our fireplaces usable again."

"Fast and friendly service. I needed my deck repaired, and they did a beautiful job. Mr. Lavalle pressure washed my home exterior and put in new outside lighting, and trimmed the bushes in front of my house. I'm having more work done in August, and E R Chimney Sweeps will be doing that, too. Not only does my deck look beautiful, but I was charged a very low price."

"They really had very little to do.  I called a chimney sweep because of the cracks in the mortar of the firebricks.  Wanted to make sure fireplace was in OK condition to install the new gas logs.  Visit was so short, I thought the cost was a bit much since this was not a wood fire chimney being inspected and cleaned.

"So totally pleased!! Can’t say enough good about A Cleaner Chimney! Or be more pleased with the sucessful job of cleaning out the air duct vents! The men arrived at the scheduled time, with smiles on their faces and an attitude to please!! Great traits to greet the customer! My husband and I are most pleased with the results these gentlemen accomplished for us! I require a clean home and Josh and Josh "fixed " my constant dust problem. The goal was met! The men, from A Cleaner Chimney, couldn't have worked harder to please us and that they did! A special thank you, Josh and Josh, for doing such a great job! And a thank you, also, to Jay, for the follow- up call, a few days later, to check if we were pleased. We feel blessed to have found the BEST------job and men!"

"My old thermostat was 15 yrs. old and was not cost-effecient by any means.  On a previous visit I discussed this with Drew and he provided me with valuable information regarding my heat/air costs.  Drew also came out a few months ago when I had NO heat during our coldest period of winter.  Within a few minutes the heat was back!!!  I'm extremely satisifed with the service and professionalism that Drew exhibits.

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

The time required for a chimney inspection depends on the inspection level. A Level 1 inspection typically takes between 45 minutes and two hours, with an average of about an hour and a half. A Level 2 inspection usually takes less than two hours. A more in-depth Level 3 inspection can take up to five hours, or even multiple days if it requires removing materials. The total duration also depends on the chimney's size, condition, and how long it has been since its last inspection; chimneys with severe damage will require a longer inspection.

The answer can vary widely based on a home's age and design. As with any type of remodeling project, assume that every structure is load-bearing until confirming otherwise with a structural engineer. Almost all modern homes have chimneys that are fully independent from the rest of the home's framing. As a result, they don't bear any load beyond their own weight. However, many historic homes built prior to the 1900s contain load-bearing chimneys that tie into the surrounding roof and floor joists. If possible, use a home's blueprints or look for chimney connections that indicate load-bearing qualities to get your answer.

Well-seasoned hardwoods like oak, maple, hickory, and ash are the cleanest woods to burn in a fireplace. When properly dried, these woods have low moisture content, allowing them to burn hotter and produce less smoke, which minimizes creosote buildup. Ensure the wood is seasoned for at least six months for optimal burning.

You can complete some maintenance tasks on your own, including cleaning your gas fireplace. However, it’s still best to have a professional inspect your fireplace every year. When you hire a pro, they’ll take a thorough look at each part of your fireplace, including the gas lines and venting system, to ensure that everything is safe and working as it should.

A chimney cap costs about $300 on average to install, with prices ranging from $75 to $1,000. The final cost depends on several factors, including the professional you hire, the accessibility of your chimney, the cap's material and size, whether any repairs are needed, and if it requires custom fabrication. Chimney caps are usually made from galvanized steel, stainless steel, or copper. Copper caps are the most expensive, followed by stainless steel and then galvanized steel. Excluding labor, average material costs are around $100 for galvanized steel, $250 for stainless steel, and $600 for copper. You may also face additional costs, such as hiring a chimney sweep to clean the chimney before the cap is installed.
